About this listen

Attorney Sam Trevisani never thought he’d play the bad guy, but now his job makes him the enemy of every dog owner in town - and whenever he meets his main opponent, Dan Bailey, the vet gives him the evil eye. Tired of playing for the wrong side, Sam has to find a solution. Maybe the tempting Dr. Bailey can help him find a solution for his restless need for change. Or maybe it’s his attraction to the vet that pushes him to pay a late-night visit.

Tired of town politics and manipulative games, Dan has no interest in helping the flashy lawyer. Yet Sam's dogged interest in him proves oddly appealing. Dan reluctantly allows the attractive lawyer into his house, and sparks fly. Sam doesn't mind hookups, but Dan doesn't do them - yet in one night, they both change their minds.

Determined to keep Dan from running away from something promising between them, Sam has to get past his attorney uncle, Dan's pack of misfit dogs, and a powerful but unpleasant client who could end not only the town's chance for a dog park but any chance of romance between the lawyer and the vet.

A novella by award-winning author Summer Devon.

A sweet and hot enemy to lovers story!

This is the first contemporary story I've read by Summer Devon and the first audiobook I've listened to by Chris Meadows. His voice is so easy to listen to and he nailed every nuance of the story. I've tried to find other audiobooks performed by him and don't find any on Audible. If he's new to audiobook narration he really knocked this one out of the park.

Sam and Dan are adversaries; on opposite sides regarding the creation of a dog park. Sam is an attorney representing a client who refuses to allow the park to be built on land he donated to the city. Dan is a veterinarian who knows how much the community needs this park for their pets.

Hot Under the Collar is also a bit of a coming out story. Sam works for his uncle's law firm where must of the clients are conservative. He's not out and keeps his sexuality hidden at work. Dan is out and has a huge problem with deceptive people due to previous things in his personal life. He understands Chris's need for discretion at work but then something happens that leads him to believe that Chris is using him.

Overall the story is light and very enjoyable; the angst factor is pretty low. If you enjoy light, fluffy romances with hot guys and animals you should enjoy this one.

I'll finish by saying I love this length of audiobook. At just a bit over 3 hours it helped make the drudgery of an afternoon spent doing laundry actually enjoyable. 😊

A free copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Good fun read

This is a fun light read that I enjoyed. Sam and Dan are so cute together. The narrator enhanced my experience. I liked how supportive Sam's uncle was of the couple.

Sweet Story

This is a sweet and cute enemies to lovers quick listen. Sam and Dan start out on opposite sides of the fence but they quickly get over that as their attraction grows. I really like that although there is some drama and conflict, there is not a lot of angst. The narrator did a good job with the story and all of the characters. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sweet story

I enjoyed this sweet and romantic story. Enemies to lovers trope is my favorite, and I really liked following how the relationship between Sam and Dan developed and grew from not liking each other, to becoming friends and then lovers. This story is short, sweet, and a perfect listen that cheered me up when I needed it very much. Narrator did a great job giving voices to both characters and turning this sweet story into an amazing listening experience. I am looking forward to more books by this author/narrator team.

Super fluffy enemies to lovers... and dogs!

I liked this story a lot!
Classic enemies to lovers, the vet and the lawyer are on the opposite sides in the battle for a dog's park, but when they start to interact they discover what draws them together is stronger that what divides them!
The story is very low angst and super sweet.
Chris Meadows' narration is always good!

well howdy-do

Sam is a lawyer who is cheesy and not the best seducer, but it made for a funny and cute start in getting the two men together. Dan, a vet who wants to develop a dog park, really didn’t want to like Sam as he was the lawyer hired to fight against him. No matter how hard Dan tried to stay clear of Sam, Sam just kept coming around.

Sam and Dan were really sweet guys. Sam’s inability to smooth talk had me smiling throughout the audio. Sam really wanted more and was a little pushy, which I liked, as Dan seemed to need it to understand Sam’s wants.

This is my first contemporary story by Summer Devon and it did not disappoint. There were two sexy men, low angst, and a little bit of drama wrapped up in a sweet story.

Chris Meadows did a great job. He’s clear and easy to understand, plus changing the voices for the characters was a nice touch. He did a great job expressing the tone of the story and the emotions.

Enemies to lovers and dogs galore

I've read Summer Devon's co-written work with Bonnie Dee before, but Hot Under the Collar is my first story from her as a solo author and it's my first audiobook with her name attached to it. This book is the second in the multi-authored Love Off the Leash and can be listened to or read independently of the other books. We're introduced to Sam Trevisani, a lawyer tasked to quash any plans for the land owned by his client to be used for a dog park, a project spearheaded by town veterinarian Dan Bailey. Sam is basically seen as the villain by the townsfolk, and it's a role he doesn't relish. He reaches out to Dan, but the vet is wary of the lawyer. It may take a bit of pushing and prodding and a whole lot of persistence, but Sam intends to prove to Dan that he isn't the bad guy that everyone thinks he is, and maybe, just maybe, they could be friends...and more.

For the most part, this was a pretty good story, with a whole lot of back and forth between the main characters. Sam did seem to be pushing his way into Dan's life, at times ignoring Dan's obvious lack of enthusiasm or outright rejection or maybe simply not getting that Dan didn't like him a whole lot. I wouldn't necessarily call this insta-love, especially since there was no love lost between the two, particularly on Dan's part. However, the investment that Sam put into whatever it was he had with Dan seemed to be really major for such a short amount of time together. I did like the chemistry they had when Dan took a break from distrusting Sam, and the dogs were a definite bonus.

This audiobook was a relatively quick listen. Chris Meadows is a new-to-me narrator and he did a good job bringing Sam and Dan's story to life. He made both characters sound distinct enough throughout the audiobook. Having only read historical fare from Summer Devon in the past, I was curious to see how a more contemporary story would turn out, and I liked the result of her efforts. I'm giving the story four stars and the narration four stars, for an average rating of four stars for Hot Under the Collar. ♥
