About this listen

Leo Marchionni, New Orleans’ most reclusive bachelor, has a two-year-old secret...who looks a heck-of-a-lot like him.

After becoming a father, Leo made the impossible decision to hide his son from the world in order to protect him from the mafia. It’s been a year since Leo left the mob, and he’s more than ready to claim his family. The problem is...he hasn’t spoken to the mother of his child - and love of his life - for months. She has no freaking idea he's been seeing his kid almost every day. Worst still, she’s moved on, and her current romance is headline news.

Dahlia Calhoun’s entire life revolves around her young son and her father’s presidential campaign. She doesn’t have time for drama, and she certainly doesn’t have time to pine over the man who broke her heart.

But a little closure would be nice. Unfortunately, Dahlia’s idea of closure is one hot goodbye kiss.

When photos of the governor’s daughter kissing a former mobster surface, Leo and Dahlia’s lives will never be the same. Between a seriously twisted stalker, an angry campaign manager, and a jilted-fake-fiancé the star-crossed lovers are drowning in a scandal tsunami.

Add a rambunctious two-year-old to the mix, and let's just say the environment isn't exactly romantic. Leo’s going to need some major creativity, and every ounce of charm he can muster, to get his second chance at love.

You’ll love this romantic comedy chocked full of suspense, because everyone loves a bad boy trying to be a good dad.

Second Chance Romance with Suspense

Loved it! very well written and performed by the narrators. I am a sucker for series with brother's. This is the middle of the series but I was able to easily follow the story. I struggled a little with how much Dahlia didn't like Leo's past connections with the mob. I did like how close Leo was with his brother and how they helped each other out! I honestly was surprised with the ending. The narrators did great with changing voices for the various characters. I did receive this copy for free to review, but I will be going back and listening to the whole series! Aaron did an amazing job as Leo and his kid voice for Gunner was great!

Not my favorite Marchionni brother

What is going on between Leo and Dahlia? The question friends and family have been asking for years. She swears they are only friends. He swears it's not romantic. Yet, they are always together. Until they aren't. She's the only daughter of the Governor-turned-Presidential Candidate; he's one of the many Marchionni brothers from the rumored mafia family. It's complicated. And they have a little secret. A 2-year old charming boisterous mini-Leo.

This is part second-chance romance, part mafia, part mystery. There's intrigue, humor, and romance. It's every bit as well-written as the previous books, but I struggled more with this couple than the previous ones. It was hard for me to give Leo a chance. He had so many opportunities to step up for Dahlia and didn't. So many years he denied them. He denied his love. He denied his son a loving extended family. He hid his relationship with her and their son. Then when he thought he had lost her to another man, he finally starts to make his move. Let's just say, I wasn't impressed. Not that I let Dahlia off the hook completely. She was responsible for putting her father's career in front of her life. I believe these two loved each other; it just wasn't an all-consuming love. The fact they could put their relationship on hold for a decade, and then not even see each other for a year, didn't work for me. I did love the three poodleteers. I nearly cried during the dramatic scene with the "bad guy" near the end. It was the height of ridiculous and I was there for it! I also adored Gunner. The precious little boy made everything better.

Aaron Shedlock and Ava Lucas were solid as the adult characters but I did not like how they narrated little Gunner. I know they meant him to sound rambunctious and cute but he sounded whiny and on the edge of a tantrum for most of his parts. I was really disappointed his cuteness didn't come across in audio.

Loved

I enjoy this series. When Aaron narrates the story comes alive from the first page until the end. I also enjoy listening to Ava Lucas. I am current on the series and it feels so real when I listen. They bring it to the next level.
