Acerca de esta escucha

The explosive new thriller from New York Times best-selling author and master of the medical thriller, Robin Cook.

Lynn Peirce, a fourth-year medical student at South Carolina’s Mason-Dixon University, thinks she has her life figured out. But when her otherwise healthy boyfriend, Carl, enters the hospital for routine surgery, her neatly ordered life is thrown into total chaos. Carl fails to return to consciousness after the procedure, and an MRI confirms brain death.

Devastated by Carl’s condition, Lynn searches for answers. Convinced there’s more to the story than what the authorities are willing to reveal, Lynn uses all her resources at Mason-Dixon - including her initially reluctant lab partner, Michael Pender - to hunt down evidence of medical error or malpractice.

What she uncovers, however, is far more disturbing. Hospitals associated with Middleton Healthcare, including the Mason-Dixon Medical Center, have unnervingly high rates of unexplained anesthetic complications and patients contracting serious and terminal illness in the wake of routine hospital admissions.

When Lynn and Michael begin to receive death threats, they know they’re into something bigger than either of them anticipated. They soon enter a desperate race against time for answers before shadowy forces behind Middleton Healthcare and their partner, Sidereal Pharmaceuticals, can put a stop to their efforts once and for all.

Same old, same old.
Just write a one page op-Ed next time and save us all some time. I would certainly read THAT.

Coma- circa 2015

George Guidal can make a hit out of any publication! I do love Robin Cook but why use so many excess words? The minute detail the author goes into gets tiresome. I've found this in most of his works. I love learning about new concepts, careers, and locations I've never heard of. I'll still jeep reading Cooks' novels as the writing get better.

Great story but very wordy

Story is great. Not as predictable as I thought. Many surprises Never would have guessed a few. I thought dad was in on it. The end leaves it open for a sequel.
I do hope there is one. Maybe Boston is next?????

Ultimate suspense

Brilliantly authored, well-researched and shockingly possible. Robin Cook brings yet another medical “fiction” to his readers. And just as always, does not fail to keep us on our toes. The narration of the book is flawless and in-keeping with the tone of the book, leaves you wanting for more.

The vulnerable future of medicine

Loved it! True look at healthcare as big business and scary outcomes of its influence.

Biologics' big business

narrarator was good. The story seemed like a rewrite of the book coma. it really dragged on at the end and I had a hard time staying with it and finishing it. Had to skip a few chapters just to get through it.

seemed like just a rewrite of comma. It dragged on

I have enjoyed Robin Cook's style of writing.
This book has been another late night spell binder. The characters are immediately ones that I have felt I could befriend. The story kept me listening even when I felt I had to get some sleep.

Another Robin Cook thriller

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I found it a little hard to get into the female characters head with the narration from an obviously older gentleman.

Any additional comments?

I am getting ready to graduate from nursing school and some parts of the story seemed unbelievable that 4th year medical students wouldn't have knowledge of. I hoping that is due to #1 the author having an excuse to "explain" to readers without medical backgrounds or #2 storytelling purposes and not that the author just didn't do any background/research/consulting. Also in the beginning Lynn seems to be blindly pursuing justice without really thinking about it. She seems far more concerned with figuring out what happened than the fact that her significant other is in a coma. I think there could have been a little more character development, but the story ran at a nice pace. I would read other titles by this author, and plan to, but many of the summaries seem to start off the exact same way..

My first Robin Cook book

The narrator's performance of the slang dialogue in the book seemed a bit contrived, awkward, and artificial.

Ok storyline, not one of Cook's best.

I've read and listened to many of Robin Cook's books over the years. I enjoy a good medical mystery. I probably would have loved this book if I had not already read Coma. I can only assume that Mr. Cook intended Host to be an update of Coma. As such, it worked well, but I believe it fell short of the original. The plots were so similar that I found few new surprises or twists. I enjoyed the book. If you are ar Robin Cook fan and have not read Coma, then you will probably really enjoy this one. If you have read it, then let one fade from memory before enjoying the other.

A Good Book, but a Rehash.
