About this listen

The first of a major Feist acquisition, returning to his best-loved series.

FREEDOM AT ANY PRICE?

Hartraft’s Marauders, a crack band of Kingdom raiders, are a special unit designed to infiltrate and fight behind enemy lines. They are currently heading for a frontier garrison, after a disastrous encounter with the Tsurani.

Meanwhile, a Tsurani patrol is sent to support an assault on the same garrison. Both sides arrive at the same time and discover the garrison has been overrun by a migrating horde of moredhel (dark elves) and they are forced by circumstances to band together and fight as one to survive.

The only problem is, who do they hate the most – their mutual enemy, or each other? As they make their way across the unknown Northlands to freedom, they have to struggle not only with the elements and their enemies, but also their conscience. For what is more important – one’s life or one’s honour?

I somehow never re-read this after it first came out; so the listen was a nice surprise. I had forgotten the major plot points and twists (Old Man Syndrome). I do remember this; and it's partner book co-written by Joel Rosenberg as both being very good reads and look forward to that audio book being added to Audible soon as well. One of my favorite narrators gives another excellent performance. An excellent tale in a most interesting time-frame for Midkemia.

Excellent addition to the cannon

I bought the book long before I bought the audio version. It was one of my favorite"Rift War" books and the narrator did a very good job bringing it to life.

A great story.

Having read most of face books 20 years ago, I found this a welcome addition to the universe. From introducing the characters, to making you vested in them, too feeling every nuance of their situation, this book hits home.

A grA great complete independent story of Midkemia

Raymond E. Feist is a master and Matt Bates brings the work alive in only the way he can. a perfect combination. Would have loved it if Matt could be the Narrator for all of Raymond's Books, nothing against Peter Joyce, but Matt just has such a complete skill in breathing life to the great works that Feist produces.

Incredible!
