About this listen

Soulmates across time. A love that was meant to be.

In present day, Laurie, tired of corporate life, takes a much-needed vacation at Farthingdale Dude Ranch.

The very first night, a freak blizzard combined with a powerful meteor shower takes Laurie back to the year 1891. When he wakes up in a snowbank, his only refuge is an isolated cabin inhabited by the gruff, grouchy John Henton, who only wants to be left alone. His sense of duty prevails, however, and he takes Laurie under his care, teaching him how to survive on the wild frontier.

As winter approaches, Laurie's normally fun-loving manner makes it difficult for him to connect with John, but in spite of John's old-fashioned ways, the chemistry between them grows.

Sparks fly as the blizzard rages outside the cabin. Can two men from different worlds and different times find happiness together?

A male/male time travel romance, complete with hurt/comfort, true confessions, a shared bed, fireplace kisses, the angst of separation, and true love across time.

Go Back For Love

This was such a great story. This is the second book in this series and I love how it was a completely unique story from the first book. The story if very moving. The development is slow as would be natural for the time. There was also a moment that the tears were flowing. I listened to the audio version and it was very well done. #CMCon24

Beautiful story!

I just finished listening to HONEY FROM THE LION over a two night period. Could not stop listening to this gripping, well-written, wonderful, exciting, and heart tugging story. It is by far the BEST M/M romance i've ever read or listened to. The characters are well-defined, believable, and the time travel perfectly presented. There is action, romance, humor, sadness, and just enough sex to keep the story moving along without ever getting bogged down. The metaphor of the red fox is perfect. I highly recommend this story to anyone that likes a strong love story with perfectly timed twists and turns. I am ready to listen to Ms. North's book HEROES FOR GHOSTS. A final note: the reader of this story is perfect. He captures the nuances of each character without over-doing the voices.

a beautiful, time-travel romance

I absolutely loved this book when I read it a while ago. John and Laurie’s story is simply beautiful and a bit heartbreaking at times. Their relationship is a slow burn and definitely a much deserved HEA. The narrator, Greg Boudreaux, did an excellent job giving voice to John and Laurie and made this story even more satisfying.

I received an ARC for this book and I voluntarily give this book an honest review.

I'd gladly go back in time for John!

Plot: Laurie goes to a dude ranch for a much needed unplugged R&R and finds what he truly needed, slow-burn, beautiful romance between Laurie and John
Feels: All the Awws and Squeees as John and Laurie grow to love each other, a few heart-wrenching moments
Drama: A scene of violence by third parties
Heat: 3/5
Characters: John is such a loveable teddy bear
Pacing: Just right
Length: Could have listened forever
Ending: Gah the sweetness of that HEA!! I need like 10 more epilogues! Can’t wait for Zach’s story on audio next!
Performance: Greg provides such an engaging performance with his smooth as honey voice. Loved his smokey gruffness for John!

Sweet

This was a really sweet book but it made me sad too because the whole time I was sad for what I knew would happen. I’m a huge soft when it comes to certain things and this book definitely checked that box. It was a really good book but it tugged at my heart strings.

My goodness I loved everything about this

Let me start with narration. I love Greg Boudreaux narrating. He was again phenomenal.

I loved the first book in this series and this the second was no different.

The story is fantastic. I love the time travel/historical element. The time travel isn’t super far fetched so it makes the story believable instead of fantasy.

The characters are beautifully written. John so soft spoken and shy. Laurie a little smart mouth but loving.

Very much hoping book three will also be made into Audible and done by Greg Boudreaux as I am enjoying listening to these.

beautiful love story

It's been a long time since I've read a time travel story and this one was so very good. There are some loose threads and bits that don't quite make sense but nothing so big ruins the story.

The narration was absolutely perfect. Mr. Boudreaux knocked this out of the park.

Classic for all time

I love this series and this one in particular. The kindle version is great but listening makes it so much better. I will admit I did use the .9 speed version to slow it down little bit as to savor it more. Just my opinion.

Stunning Romance, Boudreaux is Fantastic!

Honey From the Lion, the second book in Jackie North’s standalone Love Across Time series, is now available in audio, beautifully performed by Greg Boudreaux. Jackie North captures every bit of romance between these two desperately lonely souls, and slowly, tenderly, lets them fall in love. If the thought of being snowed in with a gorgeous (but completely unrefined) bear of a man, and all the amenities of 1891, strikes up a note of romance in your heart, then this is the story for you!

I love historicals, and Jackie North squeezes all kinds of fascinating tid-bits about the late 1800s into Honey From the Lion. Balancing the romanticism of cozy evenings by the fire, with the hardship of living in an uninsulated cabin, what struck me most about their daily life is the welcome absence of 21st Century issues.

Told completely from Laurie’s point of view, we know from the start how unhappy and unfulfilled he’s feeling with his life. As a last-minute escape from his anxiety and stress, Laurie figures a complete change is what’s needed to shake up his routine. It’s clear what this sweet, somewhat shy guy needs are the right circumstances (and the right man) to help him bloom.

It’s impressive how Jackie North expresses Laurie’s wonder and confusion as he tries to make sense of his situation. As he stumbles upon the rustic cabin, he reasons that John must be a reenactment actor, and struggles to play along with the 19th Century living conditions. Plus, just let me say, the scene where Laurie realizes he’s going to have to actually use an outhouse is completely priceless!

This is an absolutely fantastic slow-burn romance, and the pace of the courtship is perfect. Laurie proceeds with caution, mindful of John’s inexperience, as well as the stigma of being sexual with another man in the 19th Century. Carefully introducing John to one sensation after the other, giving John the time he needs to get comfortable, and gradually accept what’s happening between them. And when John finally embraces his love for Laurie, it’s absolutely glorious.

Greg Boudreaux delivers an amazing performance in the audio version of Honey From the Lion. With a real talent for expressing emotion, Mr. Boudreaux makes the most of the highs and lows in this story. All of Laurie's experiences feel so intimate, and the tremendous angst of the romance between these two lost souls is heartbreakingly beautiful.

Laurie is a complex character, a real mixture of innocence and confidence, and Greg Boudreaux captures it all. His childlike delight in building a snowman, his wee temper tantrums, and eventual sulking when he doesn’t get his way. Laurie’s emotional journey comes through loud and clear. And I love the warm and mellow voice Greg Boudreaux uses for John. It is so sexy! Gruff and unrefined, we gradually discover that John is a lion with the most tender heart. Laurie has to pull out all the stops to get some honey from this wounded warrior, but it is one hundred percent worth the effort!

I’ve quickly become a fan of Jackie North, and these Love Across Time romances are addictive. Each novel has a very different flavor, and I’m looking forward to each of them (hopefully in audio!). Honey From the Lion is an unforgettable and heartbreakingly beautiful love story, and one for the top of my re-listen pile.
