About this listen
The Resistance races against time to complete the missile-launcher known as the Hometaker, capable of opening a gateway to the land the Regime came from, and exposing the Iron Emperor for all the evils he's done.
Everything rests on the secrecy of the mission, but from day one, tongues are wagging. The atmosphere is like dynamite. An overheard word could light the fuse.
With no time left on the clock, General Rommond is forced to make an audacious plan: finish the construction of the Hometaker on the move, driving straight towards the enemy, who've assembled in unimaginable force. The Great Iron War is coming to an end. It's all or nothing - their world or ours.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Story
In the beginning, the gods destroyed the world. Five hundred years later, things haven’t gotten much better for humans. The demigods that were left behind to guard over humanity have been using them as fodder for an endless civil war between themselves, and the humans just go on dutifully slaughtering each other, battle after battle. It’s not all bad, though. Perry McGown makes his living off those bloody, stinking battlefields. He works on a crew that reclaims all the spent shell casings. But if anyone found out that he was a deserter from the war, he’d be executed for heresy.

WOW!!!! What do I do now? I mean...WOW!
WOW!!!! What do I do now? Seriously, what is there left to do with a series ending like this one?
First off, I did not realize this was the final book as I thought there was one more book left. It wasn't until 2.5 hours left in the audiobook that this was the final book in TGIW series. To say that my mind was sent reeling would be an understatement. After that massive hit to my emotions, I proceeded through the story to what can only be described as the single best ending to a series that I have ever listened to. I mean...just, WOW!
I mentioned this in other reviews, but I love the relationship between Rommond and Brooklyn. Also, watching Jacob and Whistler's relationship blossom after the happenings in the last book brought a tear to my eye. The defeat of The Iron Emperor was edge-of-your-seat type stuff and I went through a wide array of emotions and feelings.
Again, did I say wow? If not, WOW!!! Very nicely done, Dean. This was a great conclusion to the series and I am very much looking forward to the off-shoot Coilhunter spinoff continuing. I am not ready to leave Altadas.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
