Very nice written book, not at all heavy as a book

This is a very good book for those interested in Russian history, particularly the very early years. Have enjoyed it a great deal.

Good book, fair narration.

An extremely valued masterpiece by an ace historian. His notice to detail is simply unusual, and this book is a must for anyone who wants to learn about the history of this once great nation.

Comprehensive History

Comprehensive overview of Russia's long history, written an engaging journalistic style. Good for Russian history novice like myself.

Excellent and very well written book.

Keeps the listener interested and provides facts without being dry.I loaned it to my daughter. She also loved it.

A walk through Russian history.

It's mostly factual information. Any of the authors thoughts and opinions are purposefully easy to identify.

Reads like a HS book report

The book does cover a long period of history so it’s understandable that the author can’t get too deep into details, but the book could use some analysis. Answers to how and why events happen are completely absent. Nearly every sentence is [leader] [date] [event]. Which means he covers about 100 years of history in about 2 paragraphs. This makes basically the entire history full of unmemorable events.

A good Place to Start

I hope you enjoy this audiobook, and I believe it gives you a better grasp of the Russian people. They are a great nation, and it would be good if more Westerner's understood them better.

Excellent source for developing an understanding

In condensing the dense subject, the author seemed to lose the ability to be a storyteller, but nevertheless enticed an interest in finding more sources for specific eras.

Robot reader?

This could have been so interesting...the person (simulated voice maybe?) was SO lifeless, no inflection or anything resembling interest in what was being read, that I gave up. It was truly like the autocalls from CVS telling you your prescription is ready.
