Publisher's summary

Ever since she was a teen, Robin Fox has been tormented by painful flashes of the future, too little and too late to prevent disaster. Back then, her gift painted a target on her back, and she fled a devious enemy, trusting her family with a secret they'd die to keep.

When a child disappears from a remote mountain resort, Robin's visions may finally prove helpful. But the situation is not what it seems. She's fallen into a trap--with her secret as bait. Not my normal listen... maybe it's yours.

I read a lot of thrillers and science fiction, so a paranormal mystery wasn't something I was looking for, but this one by a new author came to me via recommendation. Glad I followed up and stepped away from my comfort food to devour this treat.

It starts the way a lot of thrillers start. A little girl disappears under mysterious circumstances. Then it gets weird—in a good way.

Like the blurb says, our heroine, Robin, suffers from cold flashes, sudden visions that give her glimpses into the lives of others, usually when something bad is going to happen to them. The flashes devastate her physically and are rarely clear enough or timely enough to allow her to do anything about the crises she's forced to witness. She can’t control them, much as she’d like to. And they make her virtually unemployable.

Fired from her temp job for assumed drug abuse after a flash, Robin laments her lot in life and confides details of her vision to her foster brother. In it, she saw a little girl wandering in the dark. He shows her an article about a billionaire hiring psychics to help him find a little girl that disappeared while her parents were touring his mountain resort cum doomsday preppers' compound, where the rich and famous hope to survive in luxury whatever apocalypse the world is headed for this week. With nothing better to do, despite her reservations, she applies and is accepted.

Things aren't all they seem in Mr. Moneybag's facility, and the assembly of crackpots—and the few genuine seers—only complicates things. Still, Robin thinks one of them is kinda cute. Throw in the FBI, over-zealous security guards, earthquakes, a ghost, a nature spirit, seances and blood rites, plus Robin's ex-husband and long-lost daughter whose presence threatens to expose Robin's deadly past, and the tension gets turned up to eleven. But Robin's ability could be the key to saving the missing girl... assuming Robin doesn't end up dead in the search.

Penny Arrow gives us a fun ride, and her beautiful prose is brilliantly performed by Shannon Liesner. Hide Your Light made me a very satisfied listener. I'm looking forward to what this author has in store for us next. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long.
