But when one family mystery leads to another, Wagner's postracial ideals fray as she becomes obsessed with the specifics of her own family's racial and ethnic history. Drawn into the wild world of ancestry, she embarks upon a quest around the world - and into her own DNA - to answer the ultimate questions of who she really is and where she belongs.

This popular examination of research into children's reports of past-life memories describes a collection of 2,500 cases at the University of Virginia that investigators have carefully studied since Dr. Ian Stevenson began the work more than 40 years ago. The children usually begin talking about a past life at the age of two or three and may talk about a previous family or the way they died in a previous life. Their statements have often been found to be accurate for one particular deceased individual, and some children have recognized members of the previous family.

Story
This superbly told story brings to life one of the most remarkable rulers––and men––in all of history and conveys the drama of his life and world. The Russia of Peter's birth was very different from the Russia his energy, genius, and ruthlessness shaped. Crowned co-Tsar as a child of ten, after witnessing bloody uprisings in the streets of Moscow, he would grow up propelled by an unquenchable curiosity, everywhere looking, asking, tinkering, and learning, fired by Western ideas.

Story
Once upon a time. Happily ever after. Such are the classic promises of fairy tales. Yet in Texas we find a twist to the familiar storyline. In If the Devil Had a Wife, there is still the battle of Good vs. Evil, a beautiful maiden, a wealthy suitor, a kingdom of riches and the wicked witch, but any similarity with Cinderella and Snow White ends there. With the help of her life partner and an attorney (always necessary in these modern times), Nelda Stark executes a devious plan that elevates fraud and theft to a new high.

The Gutmanns, as they were known, rose from a small Bohemian hamlet to become one of Germany's most powerful banking families. They also amassed a magnificent, world-class art collection that included works by Degas, Renoir, Botticelli, Guardi, and many, many others. But the Nazi regime snatched from them everything they had worked to build: their remarkable art, their immense wealth, their prominent social standing, and their very lives.

Without a doubt, the name Jacqueline Kennedy draws multiple thoughts to mind. She is, perhaps, most well-known for her service as the first lady of the United States when her husband, John F. Kennedy, took office as the president, and for her role in restoring the White House. While she made major impacts on the White House, Jackie was much more than her title of first lady.

It Was "Okay"
I was excited about this book because one review said that it was essential reading for anyone with an interest in genealogy. I didn't find it essential at all. It is an interesting book, with various stories of cases the author has worked on. I was hoping to learn more about genealogy research techniques, but it was more about newspaper-worthy genealogy stories. The author has extensive research credentials, and I was hoping to learn more about that. Unfortunately the book came across more like boasting or trying to prove something. Perhaps it was the narrator's tones that drove that. When I first heard her voice, I wondered if it was an electronic vocalization (computer), it is somewhat robotic sounding. I wish the author had narrated the book, because I think the inflection and tone would have conveyed more sincerity and competence. I found myself just wanting to get through it.

Myths from the family tree
What did you like best about Hey, America, Your Roots Are Showing? What did you like least?
I liked when the author would explain the research process; how community is formed, and resources shared.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The least interesting were things about the Obama family, a lot of time was spent going over Michelle's roots.
What about Gwen Hughes’s performance did you like?
She brings exactly the type of tone you want for this narration. She uses punctuation well top set up pacing and articulates very cleanly.
The tone is orated in such a gentle setting that it is fine for playing in the background or given full attention.
