Publisher's summary

Book 3 in the Eisenhorn series.

Inquisitor Eisenhorn returns, and this time he’s on the edge of treachery. How far can he go before he crosses the line and becomes what he is sworn to hunt?

Listen to It Because:

Eisenhorn seeks the truth behind a string of disappearances centred around a travelling carnival and a pictographer whose images are more than they seem. Inquisitor Eisenhorn has saved worlds and beaten bad guys galore, in short, he's a hero. But he's also done some dodgy things, and they're coming back to haunt him... His struggle to justify his actions (especially the daemon summoning) make this an incredibly compelling read and rounds off the trilogy perfectly.

The Story:

Hunted by his former allies as a radical and enemy of the Imperium, Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn must fight to prove that he remains loyal as he tracks down a dangerous heretic whom the Inquisition believes dead, the dread former Inquisitor Quixos. As he grows more desperate for victory, Eisenhorn uses ever darker means to achieve his goals, but how far can he go using the weapons of the enemy until he becomes that very enemy, and no different to the traitor he hunts?

A great ending to one of the best 40k trilogies

A thorough wrap up to the Eisenhorn trilogy. It went in a few directions I didn’t expect even though it made everyone stay true to character. What’s great about these books are the scale, yes they’re big, but not everything has to be the “final battle of 100,000,000,000” which is great because it shows the battle against chaos is individual driven.

Fitting end/beginning

A great end to Eisenhorns story setting up for the Ravenor trilogy and eventually the Bequin trilogy, which I still hope to see finished.

Best of the Original Trilogy

The stakes were truly high, the impact was heavy, and for those who are hesitant about the 4th novel I would advise they let this be the end to the saga. It serves as a fantastic punctuation to Abnett's work.

I find myself like a huge progressive book more

so far as I've read through the eyes and horn books I have found each one better than the last. this one particularly does a good job of having slow moments when we get to learn more about Eisenhorn, as well as big moments of personal realization. also as usual the combat is fun and exciting.

Excellent follow up in the series

Fantastic book. The performance really embodies Eisenhorn and also does a fantastic job with voices of the various characters. Story-wise, Dan Abnett nails it as usual. If you're a 40K fan and want to hear something different than Adeptus Astartes this should be in your collection!

Best of the trilogy

Great story, surprisingly humorous at times and satisfying to see how off the rails things get yet find a way to right themselves.

Warhammer at its best

Absolutely loved this series of books, this one in particular. This was also my first Warhammer series that got me hooked on the universe. Great for beginners, so if your totally new you should start with these books.

Some of the best that 40K has to offer!!!

Abnett breathes life into the unseen corners of the Warhammer 40k universe. The hobby as a whole is made vastly better by having such a talented science fiction author writing these novels. Hereticus was a joy to read/listen to and left me wanting more!

Another great work by Abnett!

Loved the story. This one was very on-brand for a WH40k story. The narrator again does a fantastic job for this book. possibly his best work in the series up to this point.
