About this listen
One cool April day, Mike Pritcher visits the home of his estranged wife, Lael, and takes their son, Ace, for an overnight outing. "She pushed her son's black-rimmed glasses up the slope of his thin nose. He jerked away like a puppy slipping its leash. A giggle, a crunch of gravel, a single wave of a grimy hand, and her only child was gone."
Gone - child snatched, though Lael won't realize that right away and won't understand what it means even when the police tell her it's a "domestic matter."
"You got the right to snatch him back," her lawyer explains. "That's about it." So that's what she sets out to do in this suspenseful, emotion-wrenching novel.
Have You Seen My Son? is Lael Pritcher's story, as she searches for her son throughout the Northwest, Canada and finally Mexico - an odyssey of near misses and sudden reversals, searing loneliness and unshakable love, as Lael reaches deep inside herself for a resourcefulness and strength she never knew existed. Combining intimate drama with powerful suspense, this is a story with which every woman - and every man - will identify.

Joe Gere said he died on the afternoon his 12-year-old daughter Brenda disappeared. It was left to Brenda's mother Elaine to sustain her stricken family, search for her missing child, and pressure the authorities for justice. From the first minutes of the investigation, suspicion fell on Michael Kay Green, a steroid-abusing "Mr. Universe" hopeful, but there was no proof of a crime, leaving police and prosecutors stymied. Story
In 1911 two British heiresses, Claire and Dora Williamson, read a brochure about a revolutionary fasting treatment that promised a lifetime of good health. The sanatorium in the village of Olalla, west of Seattle, was surrounded by a beautiful forest, sparkling waters and fresh air. The sisters agreed it sounded perfect and exactly the restorative holiday they needed. But within a month of arriving, under the supervision of Doctor Linda Burfield Hazzard, Claire and Dora began to realise the frightening truth – they were not patients but prisoners at the isolated sanitorium.

Trying to help, Grace goes to the woman and is shocked to find that it's her mother Leanne - a woman who abandoned her 11 years before.

Story
After the stunning historical novels The Clearing and The Missing, Tim Gautreaux now ranges freely through contemporary life with 12 new stories and eight from previous collections. Most are set in his beloved Louisiana, many hard by or on the Mississippi River, others in North Carolina, and even in midwinter Minnesota. But generally it's heat, humidity, and bugs that beset his people as they wrestle with affairs of the heart, matters of faith, and the pros and cons of tight-knit communities.

And on its surface, the Chappaquiddick Incident (as it has infamously become known) was a simple but tragic traffic accident. However, its political fallout caused it to become the most speculated-upon car accident until Princess Diana's fatal ride, some 28 years later: Was Kennedy drunk? Was he trying to conceal an affair by deliberately killing Kopechne? Why did he wait for so long before reporting the accident? And who else was involved?

Fantastic read!
This book is a suspense thriller about a marriage gone dead and a custody battle of a five year old boy. Dad child-snatches his son and takes off for parts unknown. Mom is hell bent on finding her son and getting him back. Over the course of a years time, mom searches the US and Mexico looking for her boy. Read along with the book to see how events unfold and what lengths each parent will go to and how the law reacts.
The author, Jack Olsen did an awesome job writing this book. The plot is excellent. I was on the edge of my seat hoping for a good ending. There is one spot in the book that had me gripping the arms of my chair! that would be on the river, at the falls. The narrator did an excellent job delivering this story to us. With multiple voices and accents, along with raw emotions! What a story!!! Good job to you both! A definite 5 star read!

Excellent Story! Excellent Narrator!
What can I say? I just really REALLY liked this book. I love the story of the desperate mother who will do anything to get her missing son back.
I found myself feeling for her every time she got close to cornering her ex-husband and her kidnapped son wanting it to be the end of her story with her getting her son back and her fugitive ex-husband going to jail. I can only imagine the anguish that a desperate mother must go through in something like this.
I loved the narrator as well. She did a fantastic job of relaying all of the emotions that this woman felt as she chased her son across the country and down into Mexico. There were really only two male voices; the ex-husband and the lawyer who was trying to help her, and Beckett Royce gave each of them a distinct, male sounding voice.
I love this book. I just wish I had listened to it earlier.

Any additional comments?
Five year old Alexander,Ace to his mom, leaves with his dad for an overnight stay. The next morning comes and dad and Ace are long gone. This starts the long, drawn out story of one moms search for her missing son. While the story was good,it could have been more enjoyable shortened by an hour or two.
Becket Royce did a wonderful job narrating this book.

Every mothers nightmare .
Would you listen to Have You Seen My Son? again? Why?
Yes , (although I very rarely listen to books more than once. ) this one was so exciting .
Have you listened to any of Becket Royce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no I have not heard Becket before , but she did a really good job.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
there where a few situations where I laughed , and definately some where I cried, but most of the time I was really feeling for Lael's situation and the suspence was extreem .
Any additional comments?
I was so lucky to recieve this audiobook in return for an unbiased review.
This is the best book I have listened to this year!!
The story is every mothers/family's nightmare , the father decides to abduct their son, even though he already has unlimited access. the fact that the father doesn't take the son's astma seriously starts making the situation even more dangerous.
Right from the start this story grabs you and the suspence doesn't let go until the very last sentence. You really feel Lael's struggle and frustrations throughout.
really great narration by Becket Royce.
I can't reccomend this book enough, 5 well deserved stars from me.

The Fight Worth Listening To
This novel takes you through the desperate flight of a mother trying to find her son stolen by her son's father. It keeps you on the edge of your seat at each close encounter and builds on a wonderful character arch that keeps you listening for more.
The narrator. Becket Royce, was wonderful to listen to. Her narration was perfectly spaced and has rich tones that are well suited to the ears. She truly brought each character to life adding in superb character inflection exactly when needed.

1982 Uber child snatching case
Would you consider the audio edition of Have You Seen My Son? to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version. This was first published in 1982. There have been many changes in laws, the approach of public law enforcement, and the public vision, regards parental custody situations. There were no Amber Alerts, for example. Police were hesitant to become involved.
Would you recommend Have You Seen My Son? to your friends? Why or why not?
Jack Olsen is a favorite True Crime writer that I turn to for well written, in depth work. This was a first person story, Lael Pritcher is the mother of a five year old son and estranged from her husband, Mike Pritcher. The father picks up the son, nicknamed Ace, and absconds with the boy. The search to gain back her son, takes Lael to Canada, and then into Mexico.Though a well told story, it is different then other Jack Olsen books. Well developed, Olsen usually delves into serial murderers, serial rapists and the areas of darkness . This is the agony of a mother having her much loved son being stolen and her never ending hunt for Ace.
What about Becket Royce’s performance did you like?
Becket Royce does an admirable job representing conversations, and the factual narrative. Her narration will tug at your heartstrings.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The final reunion and the confrontation between Lael and her estranged husband and his accomplice. And struggle with the Mexican authorities bought of by her husband's family.
Any additional comments?
This was different than most Jack Olsen crime works. But his forte is giving personal insights to the principles in the drama. He excels here. The narrator, Becket Royce adds to this audio book. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.Thank you for the opportunity to listen to and review.

Parents worst nightmare!
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I was gifted this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
It certainly provokes thoughts and emotion - as a parent it touched on my worst fear and nightmare
What did you like best about this story?
It was a fairly detailed account of the motheres struggle to find her child, a little one dimensional at times, but ran the gamut of all thoughts and feelings, appropriate or not.
What does Becket Royce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Definitely gives a voice to the main character, makes certain emotions more believable
Could you see Have You Seen My Son? being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I feel like this could be a lifetime movie.....tho am pretty sure they have alreay made a few like this, lol!
Any additional comments?
A worthy listen, not a breezy afternoon read, and certainly more damatic than angsty.

Started out good but then went on and........
Would you try another book from Jack Olsen and/or Becket Royce?
Jack Olsen has lately written very good researched informative books that kept my interest even when they were long as they were so informative and had such a good plot.
If you’ve listened to books by Jack Olsen before, how does this one compare?
No comparison with the informative ones.
Did Becket Royce do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
She did okay differentiating but overall did not like her voice from the beginning, a little shrill at times which grated.
Do you think Have You Seen My Son? needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I wouldn't be interested in a follow up. I had enough of this weak lady Lael.
Any additional comments?
Don't mean to repeat but researched subjects, be it animal or whatever, make a great story for me. Thank you

This is a looong story...
3 STARS (Becket Royce 5 STARS)
I was somehow disappointed in this book, and I've read several books by Jack Olsen, and this book lacked depth. There were tons of boring passages I didn't care about and I'd loved to have gotten the story from more POVs. It's like Ace and his father drowned in Lael's story and I felt I missed a lot.
Becket Royce narrated this book to exellency as she always does, I'm just sorry that the story lacked so much and I felt I could hear that Becket got tired as well at some points. It's probably just me!
