About this listen

Ever since Agnes' car accident, things have changed drastically for her. When she wakes up in the hospital, not only is her son, Stuart, there - who she hasn't seen in years - but a ghostly apparition!

Instead of getting ready for the loony bin, Agnes and Eleanor help ready the Butler Mansion for a grand opening as a bed and breakfast on Halloween, except they find the body of Katherine Clark. It's game on, as usual, for Agnes, except she now has a new partner, one who has remained silent and is - well - a ghost.

Agnes now struggles to keep her wits, keeping her ghostly companion a secret from Eleanor, not such an easy feat since Eleanor is sharp as a tack. Not only that, but where has Stuart been all of these years, and what is he up to?

Cute

The story line was cute if a bit difficult to follow. This isn’t my normal reading scene. I found the shift of the narrator a bit annoying. She moved from a young voice to an interpretation of an older voice too much. I won’t seek out others in the story line unless they are on a deep sale but I can see what someone would like about them.

Impressive!

I haven't yet read or listened to anything by Madison Johns that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. Impressive!
This story flowed and captured my attention so totally that I literally forgot to eat.
A clever plot, skillful sleuthing, good partnerships, quite a bit of secrecy and we have an intriguing and most entertaining book.
Entertaining narration by Angel Clark in the audiobook.
I would thoroughly recommend this as a good read. Enjoy!

Disappointing

The Agnes Senior series is much better.

The plot is well thought out. Lacked the humor of her other books. This narrator was distracting. In fact, I almost stopped listening. I bought this book because the 3rd book in the senior series isn’t on audio.

Mysterious Spirits and Humor

I found this book to be extremely entertaining and humorous. Agnes and Eleanor set out to solve the mystery of the dead body that they've discovered only to end up in the middle of several other mysteries. I don't want to give away to much but if you love mysteries and humor this book is for you. Angel Clark does an awesome job narrating this story keeping it upbeat and light hearted. I received this book from Audiobooks Unleashed and this is my honest unbiased review.

Enjoyed the story.

Angel Clark does a good job narrating this story, and if I had not already heard Toni Orans narrate "Armed and Outrageous", I probably would have been satisfied. However, now when I read any Agnes Barton story, I hear those voices in my head.

Too many Highjiñks

I have listened to this twice, once about a year or so ago. Both ties it just had way too much going on? The more people that were added, plus the ghosts just seemed to fracture the storyline. The reader's voce actually hurt my ears, and I have learned to listen now before choosing a book.

Grannies vs. Ghouls

Retirement is for the birds! Or so seems the attitude of our two senior protagonists in this series opener. Acknowledged by local law enforcement for their ability to get the criminal, they seem to be at the wrong place at the right time to insert their particular brand of snooping. Always balancing what they find out with what they can share and with whom, following their escapades is entertaining if not thrilling. Angel Clark gives a solid performance, though some characters are not as distinguishable as they could be. A good start for all.

Cute Story - Bad Narrator

I got this book as the first in a series. What I felt like I got was a book stuck in the middle of a series and like I was missing a lot of important information about the characters and relationships in the book. I don’t think the author did a good job of separating this book as a new series by helping readers get to know the characters and ease them into the world of East Tawas. It was a jarring slam into the middle of a new universe.

With all that negativity though I still liked the characters and really enjoyed the mystery. Agnes and Eleanor are great together whose relationship seems very natural. Some of the supporting characters were not as developed as I wanted but it didn’t deter me from enjoying the story.

I admit I heard the narrator and immediately cringed. If I had known Angel Clark was the narrator I probably would not have gotten the audiobook and stuck with reading only. I enjoy both Agnes series and the Harper Harlow series, but they are both ruined by a narrator that makes every character sound 12.
