About this listen

The pounding of horses' hooves shattered the night's silence. Harriet froze in the shadow of a tree and peered out into the darkness. She barely dared to breathe as three slave catchers came to a halt only a few feet from her hiding place. Had she escaped from danger so many times only to lose her hope of freedom now?

At age six the sharp bite of a whip taught Harriet Tubman what it meant to be a slave. The other slaves scoffed when Harriet resolved to escape north someday. Little did they know that this girl would one day lead hundreds of slaves to freedom on the Underground Railroad.

Even huge rewards for her capture—dead or alive—did not stop Harriet from risking her life again and again in the fight for liberty as the nation spiraled into the Civil War. Whether running from slave hunters, advising generals, or improving condition in war hospitals, remarkable Harriet Tubman would not be satisfied until every person could experience true freedom.

This audio book is amazing!! A must listen!!

This audio book is so engaging using it for my history class. A few parts are detailed like when Harriet gets whipped, so listen first if younger then 3rd grade. However, I like how it gives you a picture of what it was really like for Harriet. I wish I could have met her. She was a courageous woman and the narrative was perfect!! Try G Washington , Abe Lincoln & John Adams and now you have some great history. Finally history made engaging where was this when I was a kid lol. Also a great read just for fun.

Amazing story!

A favorite book for our family to listen to on road trips, and a great way to cover these important stories from history with our kids

Powerful, must-listen book

Beautifully written and read. Incredibly impactful for my entire family (kids aged 10, 8, 5, 4). Tough subject, better for older kids. My kids begged to continue until we finished.

two things up

Our family loves all of the Janet Benge books. This one was no exception. 2 thumbs up. Some parts were hard to hear because of the seveeity of the abuse she suffered.
