About this listen

The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, or more simply Hamlet, is set in Denmark, and recounts how Prince Hamlet exacts revenge on his uncle Claudius, who has murdered Hamlet's father, the King, and then taken the throne and married Gertrude, Hamlet's mother. The play vividly charts the course of real and feigned madness—from overwhelming grief to seething rage—and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption.Public Domain (P)2009 Saland Publishing Drama Shakespeare Denmark

Olivier is incomparable in terms of his delivery

Would you consider the audio edition of Hamlet to be better than the print version?

Certainly ... Shakespeare is meant to be listened to, not read...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hamlet, of course - the troubled prince whom we can all identify with.. his character is timeless

What does Laurence Olivier bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The sheer joy of listening to some of his soliloquies... impeccable delivery

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The encounter with his father's ghost... the scenes with the players and finally, the grand finale...
