The Gump phenomenon continues!

Forrest Gump is back!

The lovable man for all ages, who captured America's heart in the #1 best-selling novel Forrest Gump and in the blockbuster film, returns in the long-awaited sequel to the book hailed by Larry King as "the funniest novel I have ever read." A little older, and wiser in his own unique way, he is still running through the kaleidoscopic events of our times -- and straight into the age of greed and instant gratification known as the 1980s.

When Gump & Co. begins, the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has gone bust and Forrest is flat broke, sweeping floors in a New Orleans strip joint and trying to raise his son, little Forrest, who needs his father more than ever. As always in Forrest's easy-come-easy-go life, a change in the weather is never far off...and when the opportunity to play championship football comes his way once more, Forrest is back in the limelight and in the money.

Forrest's remarkable, touching, and utterly comic odyssey has just begun: in store for him is his own dubious recipe for adding life to New Coke; an encounter with Ollie North; and a chance yet again to unwittingly twist the nose of history.

The Rollicking Sequel to the # 1 New York Times Bestseller Forrest Gump.

The only thing keeping this from a 5 star rating is the fact it was an abridged production

Almost Perfect

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would not have bought this if I knew it was abridged !

What did you like best about this story?

I read this book more than twenty years ago but my two favorite 'scenes' have been clipped from the abridged version

Any additional comments?

The ending in this audio book version is far different than what is in the novel. It was rewritten.
I wish I knew this was an abridged version before buying it. Im hoping Amazon will let me exchange it for the real version.
I wonder if Groom was even consulted about this before it was done? I wonder if it even matters.
Gump and Co is a great and hysterically funny book but this isnt truly Gump and Co , pay the extra dough and get the unabridged version.

I made a mistake in buying this version

THIS IS THE ABRIDGED VERSION !!!

Some stuff did not make sense but an AMAZING Sequel! Forrest goes through bad and good times and this sequel has it! But what didn’t make sense was Jenny died with someone else?! Jenny died in forrest’s home and she was buried under their tree not in a cemetery! The book was still great!

So good!!!

Will Patton as fantastic narrating for Winston Groom. Mr. Groom, I feel, was a little underwhelming with his delivery this time around. Forrest was not the idiot savant we have come to love, but just an idiot. The recurring ghost of Jenny Curran felt like a heavy handed deus ex machina.

A shadow of the original

Loved this book. Great sequel to the original Forest Gump. Will Patton's narration was the best I've heard so far! Made the book come to life!

Great Narration!

While suspension of disbelief is always necessary when enjoying works of fiction, the degree of application depends on the context and presentation. When the context betrays presentation, and the suspension of disbelief has to be forced with a mental footnote, the story becomes awkward. This story, for the most part, was enjoyable and entertaining. Presenting a wheelchair-bound double amputee successfully disguised by wearing military fatigues to integrate into an active duty element was a stretch and took some effort to question how seriously the book took itself. But doing the same with an orangutan? That's where I kind of lost connection.

Entertaining, but stretches to cartooonish at times
