Honestly, I was hanging on every word. The author is a great writer, and the narrator did a fantastic job. In my opinion as a doctor myself, she did a great job, balancing the technical jargon of the science with the readability.

Feels like old school Discovery channel

This book was designed in a way where short stories and I would love to read it again. I like the way the chapters are divided and I love the way the stories are told. The book also has a greater message with having each of ofthe stories. I will be reading it again, and I don’t normally reread.

Animals have almost always been forerunners in scientific discoveries. Exceptions noted and what a world of antibiotics. Good listen and humorous too

Very interesting book. I learn about many different gross parts of my body and animal bodies.

It's not just gory it has a lot of facts that helps understand the world. Like the author says, if we don't talk about it we don't acknowledge and we ignore it. I can't believe there are still so many secrets that spook us.

Interesting science

The author does an outstanding job at making complex and often gory realities more digestible, no pun intended.

Very informative MUST READ!

Traditionally taboo topics presented in a popular science style with a touch of author's personality and humor. I *was* grossed out by some of the topics (from the ethical perspective rather than squeamishness), but thankfully the stating-the-facts manner of writing (rather than trying to play on emotions) made these easier to go through.

The narrator is perfect: aside from the voice itself which feels like a warm hug (deep, clean, pleasant), the interpretation really gives life to the stories and occasionally adds its own touch of humor.

In combination, listening to the book feels similar to watching a good documentary.

Weirdly informative and amusing with great narration

I teach Criminal Investigation with an emphasis on Forensic evidence collection. This book is spot on, it's scientific interpretation of subject mingled with history is easy to listen/read. It was nice to be reminded that though our world can be and often times is simply gross, it is also a wonderfully exciting place that holds the key to our existence.

Just as the title expresses. A wide variety of details with an abundance of information.

Well written and very interesting, but I came away knowing some things I'm not sure I actually wanted to know. I now have a pile of fun facts that I probably can't share in office icebreakers.

I'm not sure why I'm surprised that a book called "gory details" would include some uncomfortable things to know, though. I'd say it provided exactly what it promised

Fascinating, but kinda horrifying
