About this listen

When Alice Andrews, a reporter from Newark, meets Jack Russworm, a Harvard-educated doctor from Boston, she immediately senses they are from different sides of the tracks. As their love and passion develop, they get lots of advice and warnings from friends and family. Can their relationship survive, or will social status push them apart? The landscape of upper class Black Manhattan society gives a thoroughly modern twist to this tough-girl rich-boy love story. Narrator Kim Staunton captures Good Hair’s sexy humor, subtle social gestures, and the couple’s romantic struggles.

Ran into the author

So glad I ran into the author while visiting the City Winery in Atlanta, Georgia. Had no idea who she was but after a few moments of talking, she shared that she was the author. I loved it from start to finish and I could find pieces of me in Alice and Cheryl for that matter lol. I cried a little as some of the topics hit home and I smiled and rooted for Alice as she had to make some tough decisions. I am a fan.

Book was great

I love this author. There were some issues with the recording itself. Not the narration it was the actual quality of the audio. There was an issue with ch 13.

A well told story

I enjoyed the book, for the most part. There was a lot of telling and narration, which I’m not always a fan of. I prefer dialogue. Lots of history being told/remembered by Alice. She was an interesting heroine. Sometimes I understood her, and other times she completely confused me. Can’t say I really liked Jack or Miles. It seemed like they were both missing something. Maybe that was the point of the story. No one has all of what we need. If we’re lucky or fortunate, we find someone who offers most of what we want and need. I guess that’s what Jack represented. The story didn’t feel complete — which may have been the point. Our lives aren’t complete, not until we die. All in all, the story was well told. The title ‘Good Hair’ was both literal and metaphorical, which I liked.
As for the narrator, Kim Staunton was excellent. She is by far my favorite narrator.

Easy read with a twist

The concepts in this book concerning love and marriage seem a little antiquated in today’s climate, which was a bit of a downer but not too much. Ultimately I just felt that there wasn’t much action or character development. All of the characters seem pretty one note and I was left wanting more from all of them

A nice, sweet story. Very relatable.

The narrator, Kim Staunton can make reading the dictionary sound fascinating, top it off with relatable story and you have the perfect read.

Very Nice!

Yes, the character development could have been a bit deeper, but the overall storyline was actually very nice. It kept me on my toes. It didn't sway and I felt a longing to keep reading. Very nice.
