About this listen

A sharp-edged, supremely twisty thriller about three women who find themselves trapped inside stories they know aren’t their own, from the author of Alice and Near the Bone.

Celia wakes up in a house that’s supposed to be hers. There’s a little girl who claims to be her daughter and a man who claims to be her husband, but Celia knows this family—and this life—is not hers…

Allie is supposed to be on a fun weekend trip—but then her friend’s boyfriend unexpectedly invites the group to a remote cabin in the woods. No one else believes Allie, but she is sure that something about this trip is very, very wrong…

Maggie just wants to be home with her daughter, but she’s in a dangerous situation and she doesn’t know who put her there or why. She’ll have to fight with everything she has to survive…

Three women. Three stories. Only one way out. This captivating novel will keep listeners guessing until the very end.

Critic reviews

"In this very satisfying thriller, three women wake up in strange versions of classic story set-ups...can this please be turned into a Black Mirror episode?"—CrimeReads

I felt compelled to write a review to hopefully save someone else the time in reading this book. The concept could have been good, but the constant man hating speeches and themes were very over the top. The first few instances I moved past, but it is literally the entire book. A bit disturbing. Avoid.

Unless you’re looking for hours of nonstop discussions about hating all men, avoid.

I did like this book and I think I would recommend to people who show interest in this type of book however I wish the ending was a bit different and it had more of the plot twist qualities to it. I would have loved a more resolved end with more than just them escaping because that’s how a good thriller ends. Very well executed though.

I loved the creativity of the story

This book just basically took the maze runner, the game…and made it into this girl’s reality. It was so boring to read and very painful to listen to:(

Definitely NOT a Thriller

I did not enjoy the man hate that this story divulged in to. It was very off putting.

The woman reading the story was good.

The beginning of the book was confusing but then came together. The end fell apart completely. Wouldn’t recommend

Not so good

I usually like Christina Henry’s books. This wasn’t it. I can’t even say it was predictable. It just…. wasn’t good. It was not up to the par of her normal writing. The character dialogue felt very forced. I wouldn’t recommend. The storyline is quite average.

Just didn’t quite have it

I found the book to be so confusing for the longest time. I almost didn’t finish it! I am so glad I stuck around because the ending was well worth it!

Confused and then WOW!!!

I had a hard time listening to the narrator and that made it difficult to actually get the story. The narrator makes a difference.

Narrator is not great

Surprised how the three stories ended up coming together at the end. Little heavy on the hate men issue, but good read

Interesting storyline
