About this listen

A jaw-dropping novel of psychological suspense that asks: If the love of your life disappeared without a trace, how far would you go to find out why?

Hannah Monroe's boyfriend, Matt, is gone. His belongings have disappeared from their house. Every call she ever made to him, every text she ever sent, every photo of him has been wiped from her phone. His social media accounts have vanished. It's as though their last four years together never happened.

There had been no warning signs, not a one. And as Hannah struggles to get through the next few days, with humiliation and recriminations whirring through her head, she knows that she'll do whatever it takes to find him again and get answers.

Then the messages start - cryptic and creepy texts and videos - and Hannah realizes that someone is watching her every move. And there are signs that someone has been in her house.

Step by suspenseful step, Hannah is being led into a maze of madness and obsession - and her only way out is to come face to face with the shocking truth.

Good read

Overall this book kept my attention & if a book doesn’t move fast enough or has too many confusing characters & events, I lose interest.

This one just gets better...

Several hours into this book I was still asking myself what was happening. I wasn't sure if it was good or bad but I knew I hadn't figured it out yet and for me that's always a bonus. The interesting twist made it a good book ,and the narration was spot on.

Gone...

If you could sum up Gone Without a Trace in three words, what would they be?

Thought provoking thriller.

What did you like best about this story?

The premise was different from the start. I loved that it didn't go in the direction I first had in mind. I figured out part of it early on, but there were twists that I didn't see coming. I find many books anyone toward the end, but this one was interesting to the last word.

What does Emily Pennant-Rea bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration was perfect for the character. She had a natural rhythm and never broke the flow of the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several moments that were touching. As Hannah searched for Matt and remembered how much she loved him. Katie, trying to help her best friend move on with her life.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. It isn't the typical cookie cutter read and is worth a credit.

Good but not great.

I wanted a bit more, and there were times that I thought something big was going to happen, but then, it didn’t.
There were some loose ends that seemed a bit rushed, to tie up.
Overall, it was entertaining, and the narration was fantastic. But the story, in general, was a bit lacking.

Thriller

A psychological thriller that had a few twists & turns. I enjoyed it very much even though it was sad.

DISTURBING

No spoiler alert here: It was really good at first & I thought I would buy every one of the books available from this author. Then the book-worm turned. It was so disturbing that I had to switch to another book for awhile twice while nearing the end. I was going to ask for a return when I got done listening--but not even sure I could finish it. I couldn't listen to it in bed anymore. I finally finished it today. Its like one of those thriller movies where at the end, the last camera scene fades away, leaving you with a feeling of an anticipation of a really creepy disturbing "oooh...what's next?" This takes the cake. Then I realized because of the creepy ending, that it appeared to me to be the author's plan all along, & that DOES take talent. I don't want to do a spoiler alert here, so I won't say much, I thought the author was minimizing something, but she carefully interwove it into the story & ending. I'm so glad I hitched up my courage & finished it- HA!

Almost gave up on it.

This book was so slow in the beginning. I almost gave up on it, but didn’t because I liked one of her other books so well.

More disturbing than interesting

Not at all what I was expecting. While this book was thought-provoking and puzzling, I found it more disturbing than interesting. Several of the characters seemed emotionally and socially flawed. This story did bring up some important aspects of abuse in relationships, however.

Fast-paced and engaging

This work kept me engaged from the first chapter to the very last word. This is a character-driven thriller, populated by psychologically nuanced personalities. Although other reviewers have complained about the need to suspend their disbelief, I thought this tale was fairly realistic. Actually, I'd highly recommend any of the books by this author.
