About this listen

The work place is volatile and the volcano is restless…

Jael Stevens questions her decisions after she ignores her brother’s warnings and takes a sabbatical to work as a nurse on the volcanic island Tiampu. The position isn’t what she imagined. Long hours, difficult working conditions, and frequent rumblings from the nearby mountain are only made bearable by the joy of helping others and a certain set-in-his-ways pilot.

Micah Norris has dedicated his life to God and is more than content with his permanent bachelor status. But after his childhood filled with abuse, could it be that keeping his distance from others is self-preservation? When Jael Stevens shows up, Micah isn't prepared to like her. He sees the new nurse as just another in a long line of caregivers from "civilization" who have no idea what life on a remote island will be like, and he is tired of constantly having to train new professionals who don’t last. But Jael makes a big impression.

With her Christ-centered focus and her kind treatment to patients, she may be just what the doctor ordered. His confirmed bachelor status may be in serious trouble. Can he finally let go of his painful past, and will he have enough time to do so with a volatile workplace and a restless volcano?

Can pilot & nurse live long enough to find love?

If love an old fashioned adventure story that is clean but still has all of the necessary ingredients for one, well, have I got the audiobook for you! When I started Gladioli In August I was pretty much expecting the same romantic suspense fare as the rest of the Flowers Can Be Fatal series. Boy, was I wrong... This eighth book in the series turned out to be an adventure tale with the requisite romance thread. I loved the way Clare Revell surprised me but changing things up so dramatically, and even though there were a few things that were implausible at best, I still enjoyed the whole production.

One of my favorite parts of the story was the running gag about Jael's name and a certain bag of tent pegs. I loved that added touch of humor and it really made me laugh out loud. Clare Revell did a good job balancing out those amusing moments with the sweet romance and riveting danger elements.

Once again the narrator was the same as the previous audiobooks in the series and I have to say that I really appreciate the continuity. The audio quality isn't the best and you have to turn the volume up but it's well worth it.

If you've read or listened to the rest of the Flowers Can Be Fatal series, or even if you are new as each story can be read fairly well standalone, you'll want to make sure you don't miss Gladioli In August...

(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)

Mother nature throws her worst at this pair.

A young nurse, nervous to start a 6 months position in an island community, encounters a staid and non commital air pilot, who rubs her the wrong way.
However, over a short period, both come to respect the other.
Then mother nature gets into the picture, and dramatic isn't a strong enough word to explain the trek our two intrepid rescuers have to take.
A very good yarn!

Forgiveness

Micah was sure he was a confirmed bachelor till he met Jael. Lessons of forgiveness to let love come. Good tender story of the healing of love. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

This series is always exciting!

I loved the banter between Micah and Jael. Exciting things always happen in these books, but I’m not going to spoil it for anyone.
