About this listen

The other side is closer than you think

Willow was like any other teenage girl until a fatal car accident left her an orphan with the ability to see ghosts. Relocating to live with her grandparents, she hoped to lay low to survive the rest of high school and maybe figure out the whole "seeing the dead" thing. But with ghosts popping up in the middle of class, Willow was struggling to keep the gossip at bay. No one thinks you're normal when you get caught having a one-sided conversation alone.

Finding friends isn't easy, but finding enemies is another story. But her curse can also be a gift. She's discovered she can make a difference by helping earth-bound spirits move on. Yet when she meets one in an old abandoned school, she finds she might have met her match. It's not like she has years of experience. She's still been kind of winging it. Can she help him move on or will he be tied to the building forever?

And can she keep everyone from finding out that she can see the dead?

"I See Dead People"

Parents: PG-PG13 this is acceptable for middle school on up
Language: PG
Violence: PG - normal to genre, nothing overly graphic
Sexual content: PG - Really very clean so far, new relationship, kissing but nothing to warn of

I was a little hesitant to try this one, ghost stories aren't normally my thing and I really dislike the horror genre. I was however pleasantly surprised by this one. There's a bit of a emotional rollercoaster with the MC loosing her parents and moving from LA to middle of no where Iola Kansas... which funny enough my Dad lived there for a number of years so I actually know where it is. This is a Ghost Whisperer story mixed with a bit of the movie Ghost... really sweet and heartfelt, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes. If it intrigues you then give it a shot, I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

The narrator does a great job, has good differentiations, and a pleasant voice.

Loved the whole premise

I really loved this storyline and the characters. It was executed in a great way. I very much enjoyed the characters and how they intermingled. Narration was done well. It’s a fairly quick but completely captivating listen.

Ghost Town

Willow has been orphaned after a car wreck kills both of her parents. In addition to this horrific loss, she has also had to leave her life in California to go to small town Kansas to live with her grandparents. As if this wasn't enough, she also sees spirits and this ability/curse makes her a target for ridicule at her new school.

Even thought it's hard to be different, Willow is determined to help the spirits she encounters find peace and move on. When she learns that a local school might be haunted, she and her new friend, Shane, go to investigate. The spirit she meets there needs a lot of help to "cross over", but Willow learns a lot about her gift and her new abilities due to the troubled ghost, Jack.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was well-written and engaging. The characters were well-developed and the story of Jack and his turmoil was very emotional. Even though this is a YA book, I am well beyond that category and still liked it a lot. The narrator did a great job and added a lot to my enjoyment of this audiobook. I was given the chance to listen to this book by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

What Happens Next!!!

Once I put the audiobook on I couldn't stop listening. There are a couple things that you are left hanging on when the book ends, so I am glad that I have the next in the series so I can find out more.

Helping ghost friends.

Ghost Town is not a scary ghost story. It is a very well written book about a girl who can see and talk to ghosts. It is a gift that she has just developed and has decided to use it to help the ghost transition on from here. This is her story of losing her parents. The embarrassment of getting caught talking to herself (ghosts). Learning how to use her gift to help others. A very touching listen. Narrated very well. Very enjoyable. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Story Origin.

Ghosts always have a story to tell

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated beautifully by Stacy Dugan, Ghost Town as a wonderful, poignant journey for Willow, a teen that endured the tragic loss of her parents and the world she loved; on top of that Willow struggles to balance seeing and dealing the problems the dead bring and being condemned asca freak at school. So many secrets wash into Willow's life as the family secrets of seeing the dead has long history, leaving her to wish she'd been told so much sooner if this gift. As Willow comes to grips with this ability, she finds herself unraveling the haunting truth of a man's death that tragically surrounding the deep love of a woman he'd once had hope of sharing his life with. Highly recommended.

Can’t stop

This book couldn’t stop listening to. And the end, I so hope there is another one coming out. Want to see who else she helps pass to the light. This is almost like the Ghost Whisper.

YOUNG LOVE, OLD LOVE

YOUNG LOVE, OLD LOVE. I listened to this book many times while very sick with covid. I found the story very interesting, well writen and nicely narrated. The main characters were intreguing and l found myself thinking about their different situations long after finishing the story. It was wonderful, sad as her history was, to hear from the bride to be. I must admit to some tears but also a sence of triumph and peace at the end. RECOMMENED FROM ME.
