About this listen

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir - half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. But so far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing....

Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he's not an easy kill. It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her. To find out what was done to her - and who is behind it - Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse than undead.

I love this story.

I love this story even more than the one that started the whole world off, the Cassy books. We need book four to come out now.

thanks to the reader reviews

I really like Karen Chance's work. The reviews I read about the narration in this series made me go to print for the first book. I know Joyce Bean's narration is good but fans were not fond of Mircea's voice or Marlow. I am not fond of her choices with these characters either but by the time I read the first book in print I was hooked on the series. I bought the last book published at the time from audible figuring that the narration would have gotten better over time. I seem to listen to it over and over again. For one thing this book does have an intricate plot but for another the humor is so well done both in the writing and narration that it remains fun every time I hear it. I eventually went backward with the purchases. The second book is very funny.

I like Joyce Bean's narration and these books are a challenge. While I am not fond of some of her vocal choices she handles the humor with great skill and is an asset to the series.

I like the characters in this series and the humor is so well integrated with the characters that it seems just easy to want time with them. It is hard to know why people choose to read one series or another and even harder to know how to share a discovered fondness. The readers of this series are enthusiastic for good reason and I am grateful for their reviews. I started from back to front because I really like the characters from the Cassie Palmer series and a vocal shift on shared characters is upsetting. I got over it.

Lady Senator!

I Lovet the Dorinda series and this was no exception! Although this book does not particularly stand out from the rest, it was still an enjoyable read. Well worth the credit

Favorite of the series

The story was action packed with a good combination of humor and story line. I love that we finally get more insight into Dori and Mircea's relationship as well as a glance into Dori's past. Great story!!!

Crazy is a relative term in Dorina's world.

What did you love best about Fury's Kiss?

The story keeps with the other novels and doesn't spend too much time rehashing the past story line. Writer jumps right into the action.

What did you like best about this story?

The picking up of why and how she is the way she is. Thou all the trials she keeps trying to save who she can and kick butt of those she can. A great character that doesn't spend a whole lot of time complaining about her life but taking charge of what she can do with the time she has. Ok and my husband loves the fact that she smokes pot in the other books.

What does Joyce Bean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I find that characters that you read about being from other foreign countries, you don't get the value of them until they are read correctly with an accent.
You take names that are french, Asian, German, etc. and read them you mind tends to think in English but when you hear them correctly spoken and with that accent it changes your whole perception of that character. Like Jaun Claude in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. The narrator gives the character more attractive and believable character then when I read the books. Which I complete miss understood the names. Thou from that point and time when you read the next books that is how that character will sound in your head.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I do not recommend trying to fall to sleep to this book. It kept me up because I was laughing. The witty comments and ok her only servant is hilarious. The burning butt chapter I have played several times. The narrator gives him a whiney voice that just cracks me up.

Any additional comments?

Please keep tell the narrator and the author to write more books to this series.

A little conveluted at times but good

I liked this a lot but I had to back up and go over a couple parts as she jumped from one reality to the next. It was ok once you got the thread of it.

The narrator did a good job. I like her voice and I never had any trouble following her beyond that of the story oddities I mentioned before.

Lots and lots of action and an ending that should be very interesting when we get to the next book.

Karen Chance did it again!

As much as I love the character of Dory and the story, the story left me wondering what was going on till the end. Almost wondering what the plan was here. It wasn't a complete waste, it filled out in the end. By biggest complaint! What's Up with the Cover for the audio!?! I didn't notice this till I went back and tried to re-listen and realized I bought a audio that is being sold under a different books title! Having purchased all of Karen Chance's books in audio, (because the craziness and constant action is easier to rewind then flipping back through many pages) I now have TWO audio's with Midnight's Daughter COVER!. That's right some person reused a cover photo from a previous book as THIS books cover. Not only do I have to look closely when I want to listen to which ever book and not just pay attention to the title, I don't get to see the new artwork. Maybe I'm picky or maybe Audio book listeners don't matter, but I Like my cover art!
Now maybe all this and the spot on the 2nd part where it says this is the end of the cd to continue please put in the next disc is just a strange mistake that happens. Which I have purchased other audio's that WHERE sold on audible where the ENDING was not the same as the published book. This book was released Oct 2nd but the Audio wasn't available till Oct 30th so they had time.

I really enjoyed this book

It's really nifty getting to read both the Cassandra Palmer series and this one getting to understand some of the mystery behind events. I am definitely looking forward to more.

The best in the series so far

Each book gets better as the characters develop and we get to know them better, the world expands and the challenges grow. These books are wonderfully funny, interesting and fast paced. I highly recommend them.
