I’m running from the LAPD and my evil stepfather. I wasn’t expecting Aiden, Andre, Gareth, and Casey.
My mother finally calls to tell me she’s ready to leave my abusive, corrupt-cop-of-a-stepfather. I planned our escape down to T. I planned for everything except Jake being there when I got to her house. I shot him...with his own gun...in the worst place you can possibly wound a man. He yelled that he was never going to stop looking for me and I would pay as I fled my life in LA. Jake always wanted my trust fund. I knew if he ever found me, I wouldn’t survive the encounter. He’d probably torture me first for what I did to him with his own gun.
I fled to New Orleans, thinking to hide among the tourists. The first thing I did was go to a salon to change my looks. There’s a huge, sexy, tattooed man sitting there getting a pedicure. He’s probably one of the most infuriating men I’ve ever met, trying to dictate my makeover and trying to convince me to come stay with him and his probably equally infuriating buddies. I underestimated the rum content in the drinks at the restaurant I agreed to go with them because I was starving. And I wake up in their huge fortress.
I make the best of my situation. I get to know Andre, the billionaire software developer who owns this huge house; Gareth, the wisecracking security guard; Aiden, the sensitive artist; and I don’t even know what to make of Casey. Casey totally avoids me. I jump at the chance when they all say they want to get to know me better. It’ll get my mind off my secret, and they all want to protect me without asking what it is.
But how can I pick? What is Casey hiding? Will Jake find me here and hurt my new friends?

Like the story but the narration was horrible.

The story isn't bad, I am not a huge fan of instant love like this one in a contemporary romance. I can get onboard in a paranormal setting because of the fictional world and premises (especially like mates and all that), but for me contemporary, while fiction, has certain not rules or boundaries but you have to be more realistic if that makes sense. Like what women, on the run for shooting a cop, would befriend these guys and stay with them after getting randomly drunk with them. I don't know, the story just didnt connect with me. I liked the different guys and how they each got days with her and time (which all got steamy despite their no sex rule haha). Overall it was ok, not sure if I will continue the story to be honest.
I think the main thing that is holding me back from continuing is the audiobook part. I might try and read this on ebook because I want to know what happens but I cannot do the audiobook unfortunately. I thought the narrator did a great job with Misty but her performances for the guy was painful at times. She gave some of them like a surfer vibe half the time, the voices weren't consistent, the voice she tried to do for the cop made her sound like she was holding her nose and trying to talk as low as she can. At that point, it would have been better just speaking in her normal voice because it was good. It just took me out of the story when half the guys were talking. I have the rest on audio and I would never try to return them because that is horrible for the author, but I will not be listening to the rest unless I read some reviews saying the narration gets better.
Not a fan of the audio unfortunately 😞

S.L. Crawley, however, does not. She made the story cheesy and so anything funny fell flat. Anything that was supposed to be sexy sounded like my grandmother reading an instructional book on how to sew. And her male character voices are embarrassingly terrible. Like when you're mocking a guy, so you pucker your lips and frown and pretend to have a deep voice.
Just comically bad.
I'm positive I've written a bad review for a different story this narrator performed. I need to figure out a way to skip past audible books that are performed by narrators on my "nope, never again" list.
Save yourself the credit/eyeroll...opt for the book instead.
