Unter dem Sichtschutz von Farnblättern im Dickicht des Waldes wird der kleine Hase "Hops" geboren. Als junger Hase muss er schon frühzeitig lernen, dass im Wald und auf dem Feld viele Gefahren auf ihn lauern. Zusammen mit seiner Freundin "Plana" gelingt es ihm zahlreiche Abenteuer und Gefahrensituationen zu bestehen. Vor allem aber müssen sie lernen, ständig auf der Hut zu sein, denn in ihrer Umgebung treffen sie nicht immer nur auf harmlose Spielkameraden. Die größte Gefahr aber geht von ihrem ärgster Feind aus: "Er", der Zweibeiner, der immer wieder nach dem Leben der Waldbewohner trachtet.
In dieser klassischen Tiergeschichte erzählt Felix Salten, der Autor von Bambi, einfühlsam und lehrreich von den Schicksalen der beiden Freunde und dem Leben der Tiere in der freien Natur.
Einige dieser Tiergeschichten sind unterhaltsam und lustig, andere wiederum stimmen uns traurig und nachdenklich. Der Autor dieses Buches war selbst Jäger und besaß etwas außerhalb Wiens ein eigenes Jagdrevier. Seine "15 Hasen", indem er die Tiere über ihr eigenes Schicksal berichten ließ, wurden erstmals 1929 veröffentlicht. Bis heute haben seine Tiergeschichten nichts an ihrer Aktualität eingebüßt - im Gegenteil - sie sind aktueller denn je. Für Jung und Alt sind sie ein leidenschaftliches Plädoyer für ein friedliches Zusammenleben mit Natur und Tierwelt.
Für Hörer ab 6 Jahren empfohlen. Das Buch erschien zuerst 1929 im Paul Zsolnay Verlag.
