About this listen

Apparently, life doesn't end when you get married.

When a couple freezes to death on a 50-degree day, Cassie is called in to investigate. The couple ran a daycare out of their home, making preschoolers the key witnesses and even the prime suspects.

Two of those preschoolers are Cassie's youngest siblings, suggesting conditions at home are worse than she feared. As Cassie struggles to care for her family, she must face the truth about her mother’s slide into depression, which seems to be taking the entire town with it.

Then Cassie, too, is attacked by the supernatural cold. She has to think fast to survive, and her actions cause a rift between her and her husband.

No, life doesn't end after marriage. All hell can break loose at any time.

A great ending with possibilities

Finishing up the Cassie Scot series was good and bad. I loved the way the story ended up, especially with the ending left open to more, but I was so sad to see it end. I truly loved this series and hope to see more in the future, if there isn't any more then at least I have closure on the friends and family!

So awesome to have Cassie and Evan back...........

Frozen is the seventh book in this series starring Cassie Scot and Evan Blackwood, and the story picks up several years after the end of their last book, Stolen Dreams. Cassie and Evan are married with a toddler baby named Anastasia, and they are still fighting against an evil magician with the help of the White Guard. Since so much of the material in this book follows world building established in the previous six books, I cannot imagine listening to Frozen as anything but part of the series. Although for much of the book Cassie and Evan are at odds, I could feel the deep core of love and connection that has continued to grow between them throughout the series. Of course, if you are not interested in the Cassie and Evan love story, there is plenty of action and intrigue as Cassie investigates the death of a local couple with her usual flare for getting herself in all kinds of trouble. For those of us missing Cassie and Evan, this book is a gift, but it also does a great job of answering most of the loose threads remaining from book four. However, the author's ending leaves the possibility of another book in the series, and I am definitely hoping that is the case. The book ends with a touching and wise note from the author, and I am so thankful that she discovered her love of writing again.

Melissa Reizian Frank's narration is amazing. She narrates all seven books, and that continuity helps transition between stories. Frank has a beautiful voice, and her delivery is so smooth that hours listening to it pass by in seeming seconds. She maintains great characters differentiation throughout the series, and I cannot imagine a better choice for this exciting and dramatic story line.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

Frozen

Oh, how I love this series. Although we do not have the perfect ending, it is left open to another book if the author has the inkling to give us more of Cassie and her family/friends. This is has been a great series to read and I will gladly read more in the future if more become available.

Cassie is back!

I wasn’t expecting another book after I finished the first four. What a gift! Book ended on a good note. Not really a cliffhanger but definitely room for more books. Fingers crossed. xx

Another Great Cassie Book!!!

I wish that I could have given this audiobook 4.5 stars in the rating system. Hey Audible, please give us more options in the rating system! This is another great read/listen in the Cassie Scot series. "Frozen" brings a lot into Cassie's life. Cassie is juggling being a mom to a 1 year old, helping with her 8 brothers and sisters, dealing with her mom, struggling with conflicts with her husband, and there have been murders!! The mystery is engaging and we get a good look into Cassie's thought processes in tracking down what is causing the problems in her small town. The White Guard has evolved in this book and pulls together to help their community. Things are changing with magic in the world. This book does not end on a cliffhanger. But, it does leave you wanting more questions answered. We are blessed again to have Melissa Reizian Frank narrating this installment in the series as well as the previous audios. Melissa does a great job with differentiating the characters with her performances and the pacing works well. I look forward to seeing where future installments take Cassie, her family, her town, and magic. Christine, keep the wonderful adventures coming in the Cassie Scot series!!! Christine's latest newsletter mentioned the she is working on a couple of new series for release in the future. I can't wait!!!

Happy to have another book in Cassie's world!

I received this complimentary audiobook from the author. I am a huge fan of this type of urban fantasy adventure stories. Something terrible and scary is happening, and the police department turns to the paranormal investigator for help. But this trouble is so much bigger than Cassie expected. We have unknown beasties, more magic than the town knew existed, and very special (and concerning) abilities. The big bad causing the chaos is related to something surprising, and the overall situation is quite sad. Sometimes people have to make difficult decisions for the good of many. I did like how there were new creatures in this book that we haven't encountered in previous books. Not new to those of us who read fantasy genre often, but they were certainly new and surprising to Cassie, and that gave the book a fresh and exciting feel. I enjoyed the audiobook a lot. I've listened to this narrator before and I like her voices and tone. Frozen (Cassie Scot #7) is a welcome continuation of the story we thought was done, and hopefully, there will be more one day. I enjoy the characters and world, and there is a lot more room in Cassie's character development and that of her siblings. I especially hope to see some stories from the next oldest sister. This is the 7th book in the world but really the 5th book in Cassie's story. The actual 5 and 6 in the series were spin-offs featuring Cassie's friends. I read them all. I even reviewed them all on the blog chapterbreak.net.

Great series

I chose to listen to this audiobook after receiving a free copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I have read the complete Cassie Scot series by Christine Amsden including Frozen, but it is a series that I'd read again when and if I had time, so I jumped at the chance to listen to Frozen.

Christine Amsden’s writing style flows well and is easy to read as well as listen to. The narrator did a great job but it took me a little while to get accustomed to her voice because it wasn't anything like the voice I had for Cassie in my head. I know that sounds silly, and it's no one's fault, it's just something I found interesting.

There are a lot of characters in Frozen but they're easy to keep track of since I feel like I know them and also because they're each unique.

Cassie is married to Evan and they have a one-year-old who is already powerful. They're very much in love but they have a lot on their plates. People are dying by being frozen to death, Cassie's siblings are in trouble, there are hell hound sightings for the first time in 500 years, and Cassie is having weird dreams. There's a lot going on in Eagle Rock.

Cassie and Evan are both stubborn and there were times I wished I could tell them both, especially Cassie, to grow up! Her pride gets in her way sometimes.

I have grown fond of the characters and the town of Eagle Rock and I'm looking forward to reading the next Cassie Scot book. I definitely recommend Frozen but I suggest reading the books in order to get the most out of them.
