About this listen

The Alaskan wilderness is a harsh landscape in the best of conditions, but with a pack of rogue werewolves on the loose, it's downright deadly.

Elena Michaels, the Pack's chief enforcer, knows all too well the havoc "mutts" can wreak. When they hear of a series of gruesome maulings and murders outside Anchorage, she and her husband, Clay, journey to Alaska in the dead of winter in order to hunt down the dangerous werewolves.

Trapped in this savage, untamed winter realm, she and Clay learn more about their own werewolf heritage than they bargained for, tapping a little more into the wild nature of the beast within.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Nice story.

Clay and Elena have never been my favorite couple. I was a little nervous about reading this book, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Her Elena & Clay voices were good, the others-meh

Any additional comments?

Her Newfie accent sucked. Sucked sucked sucked. Has no one in the States ever heard a Newfie accent. It's not Irish.

Her other voices besides Clay and Elena (which were very good) were not done that well.

Elena is Canadian, so she would pronounce things Canadian. Forte is not pronounced 'Fort' it is pronounced 'Fortay'.

Great narrater

Loved it!! This reader was my absolute favorite. Wasn't a fan of how she did Jeremy's voice. But Clay and Elena's were just how I would picture them sounding, loved it! All different accents and voices! Love love love love love

Love The Story

Everything is well done! Love the story and characters. Honestly, I wish there were more books about the pack with Clay and Elena. My only problem is with the narrators performance of the male characters. Almost all the male characters sound like females. Her Male Characters fluctuate between, female Batman voice, female Mr. McGoo voice, and 10 year old female, she REALLY has to work on her Male Character voices! Her accents are passable. She does havr a nice voice to listen to though, no irritating, repetitive, flat vocal cadence, tone or pattern that I often hear with american narrators. Just, PLEASE, I hope she works on her Male character voice and expand her vocal repertoire of intonation in general. No disrespect intended, I just don't want to have to work so hard to figure out who's talking when there are more than two characters talking to each other.

Great story, average narrator

Any additional comments?

I had read this book years ago, so I knew I liked it, just as I like all of the author's stories in this series. I didn't think this narrator was as terrible as most other listeners seemed to , but I will say she really does not do well with male voices. They really all come off as guys who have inhaled way too much helium. Still, not a painful listen. I'll probably listen again at some point.

Another great one...but

The book was a great installment - finally back to Elaina and Clay! Elaina kicks butt in this one and we even get to meet some previously mentioned, but long lost pack brothers. The only problem was the reader...ugh...she had really bad voices. For example: Jeremy sounded like an 80 year old pervert - previously he was much sexier. Oh well, the story was excellent and prepares us for more from Elaina as she ascends to the head of the pack!

A Howling good book!

Eliana and Clay are the focus of this book. As parents their lives have changed and so has their relationship, for the better. KA takes you to the woods of Alaska, a paradise for wolves but not so when they come upon some renegade werewolves "mutts" and meet a new tribe of the Otherworld. Eliana has become, much to her reluctance, the Alpha elect, finding herself making decisions and directions for the pack. She is the woman in charge! The dialogue between Clay and Eliana is as enjoyable as the descriptions of their romps in the woods and the hotel. It is a great addition to this collection. I would recommend reading the books in order to fully understand the characters.

The negative side of the audio experience was the reader. Her male voices sounded like middle school boys, and that is not how you imagine the characters. The voices sounded young and inexperienced to the point of distraction. Very disappointing audio recording!

Hard to put down

Yet another good one in this series. The writer paints a picture that draws you into the story.

Narrator has Greatly Improved with this Book!!

I'm actually reviewing this book before I've finished it because I am greatly impressed by the improvement of the vocal talents of Jen Taylor. Especially since I reviewed ''Living With the Dead'' and complained about her voice range and accents. In this novel her accent for Clay is much better and Elena's internal voice sounds as adult as it should be. Even when Hope called, Ms. Taylor toned down the ''valley teen'' accent and made her sound close to normal. Good job Ms. Talyor!!

What also helped the narrator is the fact that this is a much better story line then ''Living With the Dead.'' As much as I've enjoyed the past books (except Living With the Dead) it's nice to get back to Elena, Clay and the rest of the Pack. There's mystery, family drama, mythology and Clay and Elena kicking butt! A great combo and a good recovery from the last novel.
