About this listen

Supernatural meets Down Among The Sticks and Bones, a novel about the personification of the Fountain of Youth as a teenage girl.

"never dull—a neat twist on the concepts of the fountain of youth and reincarnation." —Kirkus Reviews.

In a world teetering on the edge of darkness, Scarlet Singer is plagued by unsettling dreams. Scarlet's life takes a drastic turn when her house is infiltrated by a demonic force and her mother makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect her. Forced to flee, Scarlet becomes the center of a war between witches and demons, each vying for control over her regenerating body and the powers it holds. As Scarlet grapples with her own identity and the powers awakening within her, she finds herself confronted with a dark destiny that threatens to consume her.

When Scarlet stumbles upon a 19th-century journal, she must face her greatest fears and accept the possibility that she is the Fountain of Youth reincarnated. With her perception of reality shattered, Scarlet must navigate this treacherous new world, battling internal and external demons alike. Faced with an impossible choice, Scarlet must decide to embrace her dark gifts and risk losing her humanity, or reject her destiny and the powers that could save her.

Critic reviews

“…never dull…a neat twist on the concepts of the fountain of youth and reincarnation.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“A fast-paced, intriguing, richly written puzzle box of a book. Every twist and turn left me breathless. That first paragraph grabbed me and wouldn't let me go.” (Aaron Michael Ritchey, award-winning author of The Sages of the Underpass and The Cunning Man series.)

"This is a captivating tale about witches and demons and a battle as old as time. It is a story of love, loss, and being captured by purpose. This was so good!

Such an interesting take on the Fountain of Youth mythos. Narrator was wonderful! Dark and twisty at times. And that ending!! I’m looking forward to book two!

Magic, mystery, drama, it's all here!

Excellent writing. This book takes a good amount of typical fantasy tropes and flips them on their head in such a satisfying way. Story had me hooked! Romance drips a bit heavy at some points for this reader, but a fantastic book nonetheless.

Look out Harry Potter, there is a new book series in town!

First we had Harry Potter, then the Hunger Games, now we have From a Youth, A Fountain did Flow!

Road trip from Az to Ca gave us the opportunity to listen to our first audiobook and this was the perfect fit. We were bummed when we only got 1/2 way through and had to stop listening until our return trip home!
Scarlet Singer and her unexpected new friends take you on a wild ride of witches, spells, portals and demons! Excellent imagery and descriptions really pull the reader in and holds them in the grip of suspense. Why is this happening to Scarlet? What is a Fountain? Why her? Will she be ok? Will she pick Marcus or Zig?
Talk about cliff hangers?! Miranda better be hard at work on book 2 as I am not sure I can wait too long for my next fix!
Do yourself and others a favor by putting a spell on them until they too read From a Youth a Fountain did Flow!

Unique concept, awesome world building, very talented narrator

YA fantasy isn’t always favorite genre, but this one really captivated me. The unique concept and world building were great, and I have so many questions left unanswered (which is why I’ll be starting book 2 as soon as I hit “done” on this review 😉).

The author does a great job of explaining aspects of the magic in-story, which means there’s a lot less exposition or long drawn out definitions or explanations for how things work in the world, which I really appreciated.

I listened to the audiobook for this and the narrator was excellent, so if you’re more of an audiobook person, this one is a great option for that. 😊
