Yeah I love this book, Nietzsche makes modern moralists look like little babies. Don't read if you're a little baby who is afraid of being told that your beliefs are worthless attempts at getting social power. Just give it a listen.

He will make you feel like sh*t though, not because he's some poor sad sod, but because he genuinely points out a lot of flaws in nuerotypical human thinking. I'd say it's pretty fun.

BREH MOMENTS GALORE

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Nietzsche may be the most important philosopher of the past few centuries. However, his texts are dense and can be difficult to unpack. I've found that audiobooks, particularly during a commute, are an excellent way to absorb the material when narrated well.

Fortunately, this is an excellent reading of Nietzsche. With almost nineteen hours of reading and two long, brilliant books, I think it's an excellent value and a great way to access the classic texts. Strongly, strongly recommend these books are the way to understand Nietzsche.

Two essential texts from Nietzsche

This is a great introduction to anyone who is not familiar with one of the most difficult to understand Philosophers.

It is not a Audio Book for 1 or 2 sittings but a Book that should be listened to slowly so that you can absorb the material.

The Narrator handled the material well and gives the listener a better understanding of a often difficult to understand Philosopher.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Great overview of a difficult Philosopher

the insight of the great german philologist nietzsche made me rethink some of the basic fundamentals of my reality. I can't give words to the value of this book.

on the side of the recording the narrator jonathan waters gives a life to translation that makes you feel as though the author is sitting with you reading from his life's work in the body of a young man.

wow

I definitely don't think Nietzsche is the type of work that should be in audible form. I guess you can easily go back and set up book marks. The work is simply too complicated to do well in this medium. However i thought they did a great job.

needs to be reread

"Beyond Good & Evil" was Great...but...Zarathustra was a painful experience... I'm listening to Will to Power next!

"Beyond Good & Evil" was Great...but...

This was my first experience reading (listening to) Nietzsche. I am well read in other philosophers, and previously did a Great Course on Audible on Nietzsche. However I wanted more. I wanted to go directly to him. So I bought this audiobook. Let me say from the outset, that after the two books are completed there is a very long "appendix," which I believe was written by Anthony Ludovici in the early 20th century regarding Thus Spoke Zarathustra. There is no mention of this in the promotional material for this audiobook, and surprisingly, there is no mention of it at the beginning of the audiobook. It comes as a pleasant surprise at the at the end of Zarathustra. And it explains so much of what this work is about. If I was reading it hard cover, I could refer to the Appendix for each chapter and verse for help. But with the audiobook this is impossible. I am glad I did these two works cold, because I enjoy first impressions. But Ludovici's comments really help to bring it alive. I suggest that Audible make prominent mention of this Appendix when describing the book.

Some other reviewers complained about the narrator. I thought he was very acceptable.

As for Nietzsche himself, I plan to study him more. However, If one is interested in philosophy, I suggest starting elsewhere. His style in Zarathustra is highly poetic. And Beyond Good and Evil is a collection of aphorisms. Interestingly, Beyond Good and Evil has some very interested predictions about what lay ahead for Europe.

Interesting On Audio Book

Two great books. Beyond Good and Evil is read and not performed. I was able to tolerate this version but it not the best that Audible offers. Thus Spake Zarathustra is the older biblical style translation and is poorly read. I couldn’t get past the first four chapters and gave up in disgust. There is no passion in the reader’s voice for two books that were written full of emotion and passion. You are better off getting the individual books than this combined collection, which is inexpensive for a reason. Don’t waste your time with this version. So disappointed, since I love these two great books.

Great books, old translations, poorly read

The speaker reads the text in an unnecessarily dramatized way that misrepresents and obfuscates the text, emphasizing the wrong words and failing to demarcate sentences and phrases. I do understand that Nietzsche is hard to read, but this unfortunately creates a significant additional layer of confusion.

Poorly read
