About this listen

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown comes a gripping story of family ties and forbidden attraction.

Crawford Hunt wants his daughter back. Following the death of his wife four years ago, Crawford, a Texas Ranger, fell into a downward spiral that left him relegated to deskwork and with his five-year-old daughter, Georgia, in the custody of her grandparents. But Crawford has cleaned up his act and met all the court-imposed requirements, and now the fate of his family lies with Judge Holly Spencer.

Holly, ambitious and confident, temporarily occupies the bench of her recently deceased mentor. With an election upcoming, she must prove herself worthy of making her judgeship permanent. Every decision is high stakes. Despite Crawford's obvious love for his child and his commitment to being an ideal parent, Holly is wary of his checkered past. Her opinion of him is radically changed when a masked gunman barges into the courtroom during the custody hearing. Crawford reacts instinctually, saving Holly from a bullet.

But his heroism soon takes on the taint of recklessness. The cloud over him grows even darker after he uncovers a horrifying truth about the courtroom gunman and realizes that the unknown person behind the shooting remains at large...and a threat.

Catching the real culprit becomes a personal fight for Crawford. But pursuing the killer in his customary die-hard fashion will jeopardize his chances of gaining custody of his daughter and further compromise Judge Holly Spencer, who needs protection not only from an assassin but from Crawford himself and the forbidden attraction between them.

Friction will keep you on the edge of your seat with breathtaking plot twists and the unforgettable characters that make Sandra Brown one of the world's best-loved authors. It is an extraordinary novel about the powerful ties that bind us to the ones we love and the secrets we keep to protect them.

"Texas Range Mean"

Where does Friction rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
If you are a long time fan of S.B. as I am, you will recognize her classic romance/mystery stye of writing in this story. This is not her best, but it will not disappoint. As always, S.B. has a last minute twist before the story ends.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Friction?
When Crawford has any dialogue with Georgia. She will grab your heart.

What does Stephen Lang bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
My fave readers are Victor Slezak, and Jonathan Davis. Check out their reads of S.B. works. Natalie Ross, Enid Graham ,and Stephen do a good job so don’t miss out on their SB reads. Stephen did bring our hero to life as he is a good actor and can read well. Get Sting as he is outstanding in it.

Any additional comments?
If you like this story, see Sandra Brown's Stand Off, Smoke Screen, and newest best, Mean Streak. These are not to be missed.

Spectacularly average!

The characters here are okay. They are involved in a situation that no one would believe if they read about it in the newspaper. It's a bit racey.

Averiage.

Doesn't stand out in any way.

Maybe in one way. The narrator didn't rise (or fall) to the level of the book. He was distracting a bit unpleasant over time. I found it hard to listen to the relatively dull material over a long period of time.

It's the story of a judicial candidate who when hearing arguments in a Texas ? Ranger's case is suddenly attacked by a gun wielding assailant. The cop attacks and the attacker is killed on the roof of the courthouse. Can't say a lot more or I'll spoil it for you. There is a lot more that could be told though.

I absolutely hated Envy, the other Brown book I read. I didn't really hate (or really love) this one.

So if I forgot my book and had to have something to read on a long flight, I would consider a Brown book. Wouldn't be bored and would only feel a little guilty about lost time. HOw's that for a recommendation??

WORK THAT WICKED MAGIC!!

This was an interesting story about a father in a custody battle with his in-laws. During one of the hearings a murder occurs. The father who is also a Texas Ranger jumps into action, including saving the life of the judge hearing the case. The plot of this story is pretty good in terms of who and why. The custody battle is a distraction especially due to the grandfather's blind unrelenting hatered of his son-in-law. The reason is mentioned mid-story, but it is ridiculous. When the child's life is at risk, more telling details are provided. This one would rate for Mature Audiences XXX due to the sex. What I don't understand is why there is not a rating system for Audible books similiar to movies. The sex and explicit details provided are over the top. Even the crude term and description of intercourse is included. Not sure why every licking, sucking, nibbling action has to be included. There is violence, but there are not descriptions of someone's head blowing brains all over the wall, etc. Will not be a classic.
