Acerca de esta escucha

Four chiller novellas set to keep listeners awake long after bedtime.

One Past Midnight: "The Langoliers" takes a red-eye flight from LA to Boston into a most unfriendly sky. Only 11 passengers survive, but landing in an eerily empty world makes them wish they hadn't. Something's waiting for them, you see.

Two Past Midnight: "Secret Window, Secret Garden" enters the suddenly strange life of writer Mort Rainey, recently divorced, depressed, and alone on the shore of Tashmore Lake. Alone, that is, until a figure named John Shooter arrives, pointing an accusing finger.

Three Past Midnight: "The Library Policeman" is set in Junction City, Iowa, an unlikely place for evil to be hiding. But for small businessman Sam Peebles, who thinks he may be losing his mind, another enemy is hiding there as well - the truth. If he can find it in time, he might stand a chance.

Four Past Midnight: "The Sun Dog", a menacing black dog, appears in every Polaroid picture that 15-year-old Kevin Delevan takes with his new birthday gift - with each following photograph beckoning him to the supernatural. Old Pop Merrill, Castle Rock's sharpest trader, wants to crash the party for profit, but the Sun Dog, a creature that shouldn't exist at all, is a very dangerous investment.

James woods, why?!

Great stories as per usual Stephen King. I just want to know who let James woods read this? Thank god it’s only one story you’ll have to suffer his lispy breathy narration. It’s the worst.

meh...

not bad not great William Dafoe was so quiet I can barely hear half of what he said I had to keep going back over and over. but honestly the first and second stories were the very best the third and fourth not so much... definitely not Stephen King's best work but worth listening to or reading if you have the book.

Four Creepy Tales from the King of Horror…

It’s been a long time since I read this Stephen King collection, but I’m glad I went back to revisit them. Four Past Midnight is a collection of four novellas, each grounded in horror and the supernatural. The first story is The Langoliers. If you have ever watched the TV movie for this film, you have a general idea of the story and a horrible, primitive idea of what the Langoliers look like. Toss that image (if you can) and this story drips with tension. Not only do the main characters have to run for their lives, they also have to deal with a crazy passenger hell-bent on meeting his own agenda, no matter what. This combination makes for a great thrill ride. Willem Dafoe does a superb job handling the narration and handles each character’s voice with his own unique take. The next story is Secret Window, Secret Garden. If you watched the movie for this one (whether you loved it or hated it) and you haven’t read the story- read the story! King does a fantastic job of leading the reader down the rabbit trail and building the story to its climax. I read this one as a kid and the movie somehow blocked out my memory of the true ending King envisioned. Both endings are good in my opinion, but it was a pleasant reminder that the story does differ from the movie. This is the only story in this bunch that doesn’t have a hint of the super natural in it, but the horror is ever present. James Woods does a good job reading the story. My favorite of the bunch is The Library Policeman and Ken Howard does a fantastic job in this one. Somehow I missed the story in my youth and was glad I picked it up here. The premise seems a little silly at first, but as with all things, King draws the reader in with living, breathing characters and makes the story feel real. I absolutely loved this one. The final story is The Sun Dog, probably my least favorite of the bunch, but still well worth the listen. In typical King fashion he takes a simple item (in this case a Polaroid camera) and turns it into something horrific, somehow managing to build tension with a camera. Another thing hardcore Stephen King fans might like about this one is a mention of Ace Merrill. The story actually revolves around one of his relatives. This story was narrated by Tim Sample who does a superb job. Four Past Midnight was an excellent read, especially if you are looking to take a break from some of King’s bulkier novels but looking for something larger than his short stories, giving readers nice bite-size novellas to enjoy. Each story is uniquely its own and will captivate anyone who loves horror and the super natural.

This is a great set of stories.

This is the best purchase I've made on audible. 29 hours of riveting entertainment, for only one credit is an amazing bargain. Every story is original and completely different from the last, and every single one had me at the edge of my seat (for lack of a better phrase) from beginning to end.

The integrated music makes this more than just a book!

4 excellent and thrilling stories my favorite by far was 2 past midnight. This production has spooky music and sound effects at key moments, I was skeptical at first. However this addition completely changes the listening experience! I found it very immersive.

Needs digitizing; Fabulous Actors

Per the experience that I've come to love so much, this collection has been a huge rush for me.
woods is a favorite overall as is Dafoe. not sparing praise for the entire cast actually as everyone was just as enjoyable. I'd never read THE LIBRARY POLICEMAN & I advise you 2 b ready for quite a brutal shock within the story. I don't do SPOILERS- SACRILEGE! this is way overdue for being digital or else cleaned up sound wise. bass tones blurring, causing speakers to vibrate! esh.. yet.. I'm so glad to read more & more of my favorite writer. NEXT! ** Thank u 4 reading. smile!

The Sound Effects...

were totally unnecessary and only detracted from the stories quie a lot, in my opinion. I still enjoyed it though.
