James Sutton was an average guy—he couldn’t afford college and didn’t really know what he wanted to do with his life. But when his sister Holly goes missing, he finds out he’s been living in a fantasy: An alien really did land in Roswell and the US has had a secret alliance with them ever since. They are symbiotes—capable of bonding with hosts, enhancing their strength, agility, and stamina. Now mankind finds itself in the middle of an alien civil war between two symbiote factions—those who would be our allies…and those who would subjugate us into slavery.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Good series
I have listened to the complete series and enjoy the unique storyline. Unfortunately, this book seemed to be a telling of day to day happenings which for the most part were rather boring. Nothing really happened in this book except preparations for the next book. The narrator does an excellent job of voicing each character differently and the story flows well until the author feels the need to fill up space with needless "he said", "she said", and "they said". It is distracting. I still look forward to the next book.

mostly housekeeping.
well I admit I still enjoyed the book, no storyline is significantly advancing. The last three books to include this one have all been basically the same. very little advancement in an overall storyline, they're meeting one very small minor thing at a time dealing with it with a lot of them just doing their daily lives. Three stars because I still enjoyed it, the performance was fantastic, the storyline kind of sucked.
