About this listen

Half-demon, half-elf monsters infest the glades of the High Forest, the mountains around Evereska, and the very halls of Evermeet itself. They claim a birthright that was taken from them so long ago even the elves who imprisoned them forgot they existed. For millennia the daemonfey army planned, grew, and waited.

Until now... House Dlardrageth is an ancient cabal of demon-spawned sun elves who burn for vengeance against the elven realms that defeated them long ago.

Araevin is an elf mage from Evereska who discovers Dlardrageth's return and may have to spend his sanity to defeat them.

Ten millennia of hubris, betrayal, failure, and retreat are coming to an end...

I have this series in print.

I love this series. I really do, but they should not have let Mr. Kraft anywhere near it. He is an awful narrator for this. Maybe he would be good for something that needed someone to be overly dramatic at every turn. I really hope someone told him so before I finish the series in audio. He's just so bad.

Elf crazy

Like me say this first I'm a elf nut, so I love a series that features elves in a life and death mission to save themselves especially in a war setting. If you're a elf nut like me or even if you're not you will love this great series.

Couldn’t get passed chapter 2, narrator has to take a breath after literally every sentence it’s so distracting

Narration is tough to get past.

Great story but the narration is stilted and robotic. At the same time every sentence is spoken in the breathless tones of a stage drama. I had to increase the narration speed to get through it.

Rough to listen to

The reader pronounces things very poorly and has very odd emphasis moments.

The story is really great for any Realms fan! I read it years ago so I bought it without hesitation and without listening to the reader.

Well.... Maybe I've Had Enough

Would you consider the audio edition of Forsaken House to be better than the print version?

I enjoy audio books as I can't get into reading for endless hours while doing nothing else.

What did you like best about this story?

Really enjoy the dynamic and awesome world that is the Forgotten Realms. All the stories fit together and have a timeline that keeps the world fresh. Mythals are a cool concept and the blending of bloodlines is very cool... Makes for the possibility of ultra powerful characters which can make for unpredictable plot movements.

What does Kevin Kraft bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kevin Kraft isn't my favorite narrator. He isn't the worst either.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Awesome world with ridiculous characterizations of the power of elves and women! How better to overpower women than to build them with all the strength of a 7 foot man, the agility of a 5 foot Olympian man and woman, and the intellect of Einstein! The women are very tricky in Forgotten Realms; they trick the male characters often. If they can't trick the male characters, the women will straight up overpower those inept male characters.

Any additional comments?

This may just be why Forgotten Realms is dead. Play to the innate strengths of the races and sexes as they exist. Ones not better than the other necessarily, but write with some sort of balance for Goodness sake! Ultra intelligent people making ignorant decisions at every turn while never being at risk of death..... It gets old and frustrating. Let the ignorant decision lead to death once in a while.

Engaging but somewhat rushed

"Forsaken House" offers the reader with an engaging story of several people willing to take risks and make controversial choices for the sake of the common good in the face of overwhelming evil.
The book honestly has it all and doesn't shy away from allowing its characters to be as mighty as the Realms have the potential to let characters be. Characters speaking the literal word of gods and others learning spells ancient beyond belief. It is a thrilling ride.
Indeed, the only real problem with the book is that it goes by so fast. Many of its characters, though likable, don't truly get to step into their own before being removed from the story one-way-or-another. As a result only the protagonist Araevin and the character Seiveril Miritar truly get to leave a meaningful impact on the reader/listener and undergo significant character-development. When this is stated, however, it is important to acknowledge the character of Fflar Starbrow Melruth as he hold obvious potential for ongoing development throughout the series, and any lesser impact he had in this book will without a doubt be expanded upon as the overarching story progresses.

Great read

The author was good, I think we was saying rather main character name incorrectly but that’s fine. The story is great, just what I a high fantasy lover and enthusiast wants from a book. The mix between a party of hero’s right battles fought is great and it is written in a way that makes you long for more. If you like elves, dungeons and dragons, or high fantasy in general this is a read for you.
