I liked the story but it’s not 5 stars

The entire story was cute once you get past the fact that Mike is Narcissistic. It’s the only answer to how could Mike not return home while at the Academy? He was not in prison. Mikes self centered behavior is not due to his time at the academy or his career. He couldn’t attend to his families need because he didn’t want to. To say his family couldn’t afford to visit fine but he could go home especially after the first year. And affording it wasn’t the issue. The average base salary for a US Air Force cadet is $80,000 per year. Also from the AF Academy website “Cadets have a leave period over Thanksgiving, two and a half weeks for winter break and one week in the spring semester. Often, many cadets have the opportunity to go home over long weekends as well. During the summer, cadets take required leadership programs, which are held at the Academy or other installations. Either before or after a leadership program, most cadets in the upper three classes have approximately three weeks of leave. There are exceptions for cadets who volunteer or who are required to attend summer school. In these cases, leave periods must be forfeited.” Even with that Mike could have gone home and learned what was going on.
