Lucy Tait has fantasized about Blue McCoy since high school. With the Navy SEAL back in town, nothing's changed...except that Lucy's a police officer and Blue's been charged with murder. Somewhat predictable.

Carter "Blue" McCoy is back in his tiny hometown to attend the wedding of his brother and former sweetheart. Blue doesn't have feelings for Jenny Lee anymore ~ but it doesn't stop the gossip mill from turning.
Lucy Tait is a rookie in the local Sheriff's office and is still harboring feelings for her high school crush. When Blue's brother is murdered and Blue becomes the prime suspect, Lucy is assigned to be lead investigator.
Here's where things get a little tricky for me as a reader/listener. This is a small town, so I'm willing to give leeway in what is protocol or how people would/should/might act. There's a lot of unprofessionalism and "seriously, would anyone get away with that?" going on that's somewhat distracting in it's totality.
Also, one of the things I *love* about Brockmann is her ability to write strong female characters. Even if vulnerable, they're usually no dummies. Lucy is one of her weaker characters in terms of incompetence as an officer and her determination to think that, despite repeated statements to the contrary, Blue is still in love with Jenny Lee. It gets old by the end.
The mystery/suspense part is fairly solid, but as the stage is “small town” the action is fairly benign for a Military Romance. Blue & Lucy get their HEA, but it’s abrupt. The epilogue is cute.
While I prefer dual narration on books with alternating POVs, this narrator was still good. She did have the tendency to sound like she had something in her mouth at times, but overall it was a good recording. Honestly, I think I’d rather read it next time.
Good for an older Brockmann SEAL story

Having grown up in a small town in the south, I can empathize with the main characters and the things that they deal with. The 'who dun it' thing was good too since I was able to tell somewhat who was involved, but couldn't guess exactly who and why.
If I had a complaint it would be the narrator's inconsistency in voices and accents. But, that wasn't so distracting that it took away from the story.
Better than the first one...
