About this listen

Sara is walking home from work one night. She hears police sirens and takes a different route than normal to avoid any trouble. On her detour, she inadvertently witnesses a man being shot by a group of men in suits. But they see her....

The men grab Sara and discuss how they can dispose of her. She tries to convince them that she'll keep quiet, but they don't believe her. "Promises mean nothing," another one says sharply. "Dead witnesses can't talk."

The men mutter among themselves for a few seconds, and Sara tries to escape, but to no avail. She slammed powerfully into the wall of a person standing right behind her.

Just as the other guys recognize that she's restrained once again, the man pulls her to one side and away from everyone else. He then bundles her into a car and they speed off.

Is Sara being rescued or dragged into deeper danger?

I had high hopes for this, was a little disappoint

What did you like best about Forbidden Lust? What did you like least?

The storyline sounded really good, I enjoyed the story for the most part, but with just a little work it could have been great.

I wasn't a big fan of the narration. She seemed too overly dramatic at times.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It felt a bit rushed.

How could the performance have been better?

I think the narrator needed to just calm down or speak in a bit more of a normal voice.
I have noticed reviews that really liked the narration, so this may just be a personal preference of mine.

Did Forbidden Lust inspire you to do anything?

No

Rushed and Disjointed

Let me say first that I am a major Simone Carter fan. I love her stories. With that said, this one is not one of her finest. It comes across as disjointed and rushed. I would have liked to have heard more about Jay. It was difficult to see him as a mafia boss with the little information we get about him. Another reviewer commented on Sara's comment about her skin tone being dark but if Jay is as pale as she says then pretty much any skin color would seem dark by comparison, not necessarily inter-racial. The narration could have been a bit better. I usually have no complaints with Lissa Blackwell's narrating talents but I didn't really care for the voice she gave Jay. He came across as being, well, not a mob boss. Anyway, if you haven't listened to any other of Simone Carter's books then this isn't the best one to start with. She has so many others that are better. The same goes with Lissa Blackwell's narration ability.

Short erotic romance story told in first person. Sara is a young woman stuck in circumstances from making poor choices and she knows it. This is a story of what happens after she witnesses a murder.

Lissa Blackwell does a great job narrating.

well done narration.

The narration was the best thing about this book. Great for a commute or being stuck in traffice for a quick listen. Story wasn't believable though. and the heroine was kinda dim. “I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

Good short listen -with some pretty steamy parts

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

This was a quick listen, which I enjoy, however, things also happened pretty fast in the book. If it were longer, of course there would be much more depth to both the characters and the story.. but overall, it was an enjoyable read, with some pretty steamy parts to through in as well.

Wished it was longer

Sarah and Jay met under extenuating circumstances. Jay took Sarah to protect her from the mafia. Their instant chemistry led them into a fast and furious relationship until Jay's secrets came to light. Will they be able to work through them? I enjoyed this book, but felt that with the complex story line that it could have been much better if the book was longer. The characters were worth getting to know and it seemed rushed. As always, Simone Carter does have a knack for a suspenseful romance and incredibly hot sex scenes. The two were definitely well matched and the mafia background always intrigues me. I would have liked to get to know these two a little better and enjoyed the blooming of their relationship.

Liisa Blackwell narrates this book. I have come to expect her well done narrations with these short novellas and enjoy her performances.

Short book that should be longer.

Short, sweet and sexy. There's danger and excitement but it could use more fleshing out.
The narrator made the story come alive.

Good Storyline

This book was quite good and was really well performed but I felt that Sara was too easily convinced to stay with Jay in the first instance. Once she knew who he really was and made the decision to go back to him I felt that the end was a little rushed.

TOO MANY PIECES THAT AREN'T NECESSARY OR RELEVANT

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

Simone Carter usually ties a nice tidy package with her short stories but, IMO, this one was chaotic. The characters were weren't believable. Leave it at that. And halfway through skin tone was mentioned as being opposite? Did I miss it being interracial? The plot is worthy of a Brockmann or Evanovich novel, but without sufficient word count, circumstances can't develop. Potential game-changing elements are thrown in, usually just a single sentence, and they're never mentioned again. Too much in too little.

Narration was acceptable, but even it seemed sub-par.... maybe because of the writing...

Sorry. I can only say "You'll do better next time, Simone."
