About this listen

In Ty Schwamberger's first short-story collection, For After Midnight, the author takes you on a terror-filled ride through dark woods, the desert, a graveyard, and dark streets where monsters and strange creatures run amok. The other half of this collection is filled with characters driven to the brink of insanity, coping with the loss of loved ones, spousal abuse, and fighting crime on the mean city streets.

Are you up to the challenge of venturing into the mind of a true up-and-comer in today's horror genre? If so, don't say you weren't warned... because bad things can happen when it's after midnight.

Rudimentary at best

I'll compare it to the T.V., show Creepshow and assume the campiness was purposeful. Humor in horror isn't beyond me but some of the stories gave me the distinct feeling the author has a chip on his should about women. This, coming from a woman who loves all kinds of horror. The narration REALLY didn't help. Every female character's voice was affected with the kind of sarcastic, whiney imitation usually reserved for hateful children who mock their parents behind their backs.

Was this written by a pre-pubescent boy?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The stories were just silly, juvenile.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ty Schwamberger again?

Never.

How could the performance have been better?

The female voices sounded exactly like comedian Pablo Fransico when he he is being funny.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from For After Midnight?

The various sex scenes read like they were written by Bevis and Butthead.

Any additional comments?

The book is dedicated to the author's fifth grade teacher... I think because he wrote them in her class. Just immature silliness.

Horrible!

What disappointed you about For After Midnight?

The stories were not written well at all! They remind me of stories submitted by first semester creative writing students.

Has For After Midnight turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I still like the horror/mystery/short story genre. Fortunately, this is the first book I have purchased from Audible that was truly a bad book.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Randy Capes?

Anyone could have done a better job.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from For After Midnight?

None, I would have added some scenes.

Any additional comments?

The narration was very irritating. It seemed as though the narrator was reading the stories for the first time and it was taped and marketed.

A GREAT COLLECTION, A MUST HEAR!!

Where does For After Midnight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As far as short story collections go I'd rank it in the top 5, though the individual stories, taken in themselves, are some of my favorite listens

What did you like best about this story?

The stories are short, punchy and frightening. It's great to listen to on a ride to work.

Have you listened to any of Randy Capes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he has a wide range of characters, and he seems like a very passionate narrator. One of the stories is read by a Veronica something, she does a great job as well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

FOR AFTER MIDNIGHT - 18 Tales of TRUE TERROR to keep you up at night.
