About this listen

Have you ever wondered why Bernie Madoff thought he could brazenly steal his clients' money? Or why investors were so easily duped by Elizabeth Holmes? Or how courageous people like Jeffrey Wigand are willing to become whistleblowers and put their careers on the line?

Fraud is everywhere—from Nigerian "princes," embezzlers, and Ponzi schemers to corporate giants like Enron and Volkswagen. And fraud is costly. Each year, consumers, small businesses, governments, and corporations lose trillions of dollars.

We've become so accustomed to hearing about fraud, we accept it as part of the world we live in today—so much so, that our abilities to identify it and speak about it are limited.

No more. In Fool Me Once, renowned expert Kelly Richmond Pope shows fraud in action, uncovering what makes perps tick, victims so gullible, and whistleblowers so morally righteous, while also encouraging us to look at our own behaviors and motivations in the hopes of protecting ourselves and our companies.

By the time you finish this book, you'll have a better understanding of—and perhaps more compassion for—perpetrators; a renewed connection to victims; and an appreciation for those who blow the whistle.

Informative and stuffed with important ideas and cautions. I had thought I had been pretty careful, but this alerted me to even more clever scams.

So good, I am sending it to my grandchildren

I would imagine it’s hard to make this kind of book sound compelling. But I did find it enlightening. I think my experience would have been better reading it as opposed to listening to it.

Informative

The author makes her points quickly, and then makes them again and again and again, and again, and again. The narrator is uninspiring. But there are a few interesting principles, many interesting case studies, and there’s something to be learned.

Repetitive timer, academic, moderately interesting.

I've listened to this twice and simply love it! If you are a true crime lover, this is for you. The stories and the research are interesting. Highly recommend.

Thanks for all the work it took to put this book together. I was trained as an engineer but I had the experience of being a Credit Union board member. I attended an FBI training course for fraud and came away amazed that people would break trust so easily and in such sneaky ways. This book painted the big fraud picture in bright colors. A great read!!!

A Solid Read!

An unfortunate result of publish or perish. Overly academic labeling to the
Point of silliness

Not worth a read

The narrator sounds like an ai bot. Very annoying to listen too. Really makes for a bad listening experience
