About this listen

A SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

'Cussler is hard to beat' Daily Mail

The fourteenth incredible Dirk Pitt classic from multi-million-copy king of the adventure novel, Clive Cussler.

Tracking a notorious Chinese smuggler's activities leads Dirk Pitt from Washington State to Louisiana, where his quarry is constructing a huge shipping port in the middle of nowhere. Why has he chosen this unlikely location?

The trail then leads to the race to find the site of the mysterious sinking of the ship that Chiang Kai-shek filled with treasure when he fled China in 1949, including the legendary boxes containing the bones of Peking Man that had vanished at the beginning of World War I. As Pitt prepares for a final showdown, he is faced with the most formidable foe he has ever encountered...

One of his very best!

It just kept getting better and better, it really gave me great pleasure. It made me want another Dirk Pitt move immediately.

A winner from cover to cover!

The story finished at 7am after an all night joy listening. Cussler used all the characters he had and seemlessly brought their offices in and out of the tale, making it richer and more complete.

I was a bit confused, but then, it’s a re release

Juan Cabrillo is in this one too, and he had both legs....for a while. A 486 computer was dating it so now I knew something was up. Looking back it I found out it was first released 9-97. That being said it was a very good listen, just think prequel if you didn’t read it before and you’ll be fine.

Never disappointed!!

I love Cussler and the Dirk Pitt series. I especially love this story with the introduction of the Oregon gang.

Not a new book

This book popped up on Audible as a 2019 book. It’s not it was originally published in 1997. As long as you know that then it’s a fairly entertaining book. If you’ve been keeping up with the Dirk Pitt series alot of the things that you know now are kind of confusing until you realize that this book was written in the past.

Enjoyable Classic Cussler!

I'm on a Clive Cussler tangent right now using up all my Audible credits on The Dirk Pitt and the NUMA series. I guess there is something special about the line of escapism and adventure these stories offer during the COVID pandemic. I really only have one (or two) pet peeves in all of these books: I feel horrible when they never have time to heal their wounds before getting all banged up again and they rarely have time to eat to keep up their strength. Please, FEED these characters!!! They need fuel in their bodies and healing in their bones so that they can continue to save the world in extraordinary ways! I do love these books, though. Especially the consistent sense of humor. I frequently laugh out loud, which is a nice break in the tense moments.
