About this listen

It is 1860, and while China seethes through the bloodiest civil war in history, and the British and French armies hack their way to the heart of the Forbidden City, Harry Flashman hoodwinks them all.

Once again, that supreme anti-hero of the Victorian era, the one and only Harry Flashman, is ready to rise to the occasion no matter what depths of dishonor he must plumb. Lusting after a clergyman's wife, smuggling opium to Hong Kong, coupling with an Amazonian woman river pirate, groveling before a ruthless warlord, becoming the sexual plaything of the most beautiful and evil woman in the world, and cheerfully participating in yet another British rape of an ancient culture, this is the inimitable Flashman at his very worst. And, as all Flashman fans know, that means he's at his irresistible best in this, his most exotic and erotic, uninhibited and hilarious adventure yet.

Flashy meets a fascinating Chinese Vixen Queen

What did you love best about Flashman and the Dragon?

The humor, adventure and risqué digressions.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

And how. Flashy's perils are never ordinary. In 1840 China, he has much to fear at every turn, but naturally, his wits and good fortune (especially based on his allure for ladies of every stamp) see him through.

Which scene was your favorite?

The Summer Palace interludes.

Any additional comments?

The thing about Flashman is that he's a rogue, a coward and a knave. But he spins a terrific yarn and the history behind all of his stories is sound. If you're sensitive or easily offended, don't even think about reading GMF. All the Flashman books are ridden with racism, sexism and imperialist superiority. Read these for the history and the fun, but know that they are the most politically incorrect novels to come out of the later 20th C.

Great history, great fun, great Flashman

George Macdonald Fraser’s ability to illustrate history using Flashman is unmatched. David Case was born and self-trained to read Flashman’s adventures. The combination is sublime … if you have a suitably wicked streak, 😜

Brilliant,fascinating, shocking,enightening.

A wonderfully told tale by this masterful author.
The Is narrator has a fantastic turn of phrase and and does the accents very well.

Flashman wins again!

If you're a fan of historical fiction, I find Flashman to be almost impossible to beat. Now, you're not going to tear up or get too terribly attached to any of the characters, but if you're looking a fun romp through time and battle (with a more than a few romps in the bed mixed in) Flashman is simply capital.

A wonderful romp through 19th century China

One of the better Flashman books. Exciting, cynical, bawdy, and hilarious, with gems of soldier's wisdom hidden throughout. Be careful where you listen to this, the titular character is racist, frankly because it's an accurate portrayal of a 19th century officer.

Best book of series - Flashman

George MacDonald Fraser is an unsung genius of literature. This book is a masterpiece. How does he write such entertaining material while teaching in detail history reconstructed and long since forgotten? Amazing.

Flash man at his best!

I had read this particular Flashman book years ago and was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it again so much in audio form.
The descriptions of life, locations and battles were as usual, top notch.

Good Old Flashy

I love these books so much that I’ve been slowly reading these books over the years so as not to run out of them too quickly.
