About this listen
Taught by one the world's leading Ignatian spirituality experts, this course is a must-have for any Christian giving or finding spiritual direction. Available as a 12-part course, Finding Spiritual Direction was carefully crafted to help you navigate the rich currents among Christians seeking, giving, or getting spiritual direction.
Drawing on 50 years of experience, engaging spirituality leader Rev. Tetlow, SJ, explores spiritual direction in its most basic reality: the personal relationship of two disciples guided by the Holy Spirit. You will explore the hopes and aims that bring seekers to direction. In doing so, you will discover a firm direction in Christian living, which will help you more fully live out baptismal holiness in your call or vocation.
Whether you are seeking to deepen your religious faith, learn more effective methods of prayer, or find a companion on your path to the Lord, you will gain invaluable insights. Rev. Tetlow describes the lectio divina and how to use consideration, meditation, and contemplation in prayer. He also describes methods of direction in the great spiritual traditions like Carmelite, Franciscan, and Ignatian.
You will discover five roles in spiritual direction: friend, companion, guide, director in a strict sense, and formator. Rev. Tetlow presents a synthesis of the best practices in listening, and throughout the course, he gives you necessary tools to interpret scripture and apply the wisdom of great spiritual writers to your life.

And yet, Richard Foster, the founder of Renovare, insists that humility is central to the journey toward character formation and spiritual transformation. Story
At one of the lowest points in Henri Nouwen’s life, he gave a series of lectures on the importance of following Jesus in an age of anxiety. Drawn from those talks, this new work reveals what sustained Nouwen to remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus and led him to become an icon of compassion and vulnerability. Here, he writes eloquently about calling and purpose, fear and hope. And he explains why - with so many choices available to the 21st-century seeker - the greatest reward for those looking for spiritual direction is rediscovering Jesus’ teaching on love.

Story
Gerald G. May, MD, one of the great spiritual teachers and writers of our time, argues that the dark "shadow" side of the true spiritual life has been trivialized and neglected to our serious detriment. Superficial and naively upbeat spirituality does not heal and enrich the soul. Nor does the other tendency to relegate deep spiritual growth to only mystics and saints. Only the honest, sometimes difficult encounters with what Christian spirituality has called and described in helpful detail as "the dark night of the soul" can lead to true spiritual wholeness.

Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.
