About this listen

Quiet, cautious Ella Lantz has spent her entire life in the close-knit Amish community of the Home Valley. Tending her lavender fields, she finds calm and serenity in purple blooms, heavenly scents and a simple life. But the sudden arrival of a strange visitor to her parents' home heralds a host of new complications.

Alex Caldwell is unlike any man Ella has ever met - clearly, he's no "Pennsylvania cousin", whatever the elders may say. In fact, Alex is a Wall Street whistle-blower under witness protection…and he's brought a world of trouble to the Lantz doorstep.

As Ella comes to trust - even love - a man so utterly worldly, she realizes her life has already changed forever. When it becomes violently clear that even the Home Valley is no refuge, Ella and Alex are driven into the wider world to hide. And with such a high price placed on their silence, they may not survive to share their love….

Did not like narration

Almost stopped book a few times. The elder Amish sounded more like vampires than Amish.

Seems to portray more flesh and blood real people.

Love the book. I'm ashamed to say it's been in my library for several years. A really good and engaging book with lots of twists and turns. I highly recommend this book. I have already got another Karen Harper book. downloaded.

Good mesh of Amish and English

This was a good listen overall. The story was good however somewhat predictable. The characters were very stable especially the Amish based ones. The "englisher" made his way into the community much to his chagrin. Without being a spoiler it's difficult to discuss more about the characters and the outcome. The narrator was easy to listen to for the most part.

As mentioned overall it was a good easy listen.

Worth finishing but disappointing

The story was ok. The reader is not the best. The older man voice reminded me of vampires and was more distracting from the story than interesting. Maybe just not my kind of story.... but all in all... it could have been better.

Disappointed

I listened to the first two books in the series and couldn't wait for the third. I wish I hadn't listened to it. It was almost like it was not the same author, or the author ran out of material. I read a lot of literature about the Amish and this one ran a bit too steamy to be Amish. A few of the characters were throw aways-especially Link and the clowns, yes, I said clowns. The intimacy didn't seem to fit the author, or the genre. Very displeased. It saddened me that the series ended on such a sour note.

Very predictable

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I have read a few other books in this series, and wish I had stopped there. This story is shallow, predictable and boring.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something more creative.

What does Gracie Peters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like Gracie Peters for these books, she fits the story.

Did Finding Mercy inspire you to do anything?

No

Disappointed

I was rather disappointed with the way Karen finished this series. In some places it bordered on soft core erotica. I often listen to my books while my kids are in the car and couldn't do that with this title.

Not the story or the reading to entertain me.

The story was totally unbelievable with way to many unbelievable events. The readers voice kept varying from too loud to too soft to hear I had to keep adjusting the volume. Very frustrating.
