Sickening

I have never been a fan of plots where the characters are “trapped” in some lie they can’t get out of (see also: Dear Evan Hansen). Ali’s plot line made me sick on top of the numerous depressing themes in this book: postpartum depression, death, and a failing marriage don’t really make for a fun time, so I don’t know how I’m expected to enjoy this book. I can’t fault the narrator, though - she doesn’t deserve a bad rating just because her script was bad. The narrator did a great job of mimicking the rhythm and tone of announcers, news broadcasters, and everyday folks as needed. Maybe look for a different book that she’s narrated, because this one was not good. (It’s also sexually explicit, another thing that drags my review down, so don’t carelessly listen to this audiobook where others can hear.)
