About this listen

What would you do for family?

Between the rural Texas towns of Bass and Sat is one of the most popular barbecue restaurants in America. Big Butts Bar-B-Que has been the seat of power for the Fleming family since the Great Depression, but when tragedy and scandal beset Titus and his surviving transgender son Lavinia, deals are made to keep control of the restaurant. An arrangement that will put a father at odds with his legacy. As the table is set, is it just the keys to the barbecue kingdom some are after, or something else entirely?

An extreme horror story inspired by Shakespeare's play Titus Andronicus.

Well Written Tale of Revenge

Where does Feast rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

*I have received a free copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.*
I have listened to quite a few audiobooks but Feast would rank rather high on my list.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lavinia was my favourite. He wasn't afraid to be who he was with no apology, though what happened to him broke my heart.

What three words best describe Rick Gregory’s performance?

Ok. Just. Ok.

Who was the most memorable character of Feast and why?

Titus was the most memorable character of Feast. He had already lost two of his sons and was estranged from the third. He believed his actions were right for his family and his family business. In the end he was there for Lavinia too.

Sweet Tasting Revenge

I love a good revenge story and this is one that goes back and forth between the two feuding families. Based on a Shakespeare play though this story will never be read in school. Be prepared for gory violence, graphic sex/rape scenes, and a whole lot of fun. Rick Gregory as before did a great job narrating. The nice thing is that this story is short and full of fun the entire time. The first few minutes caught me off guard but then the rest was great.

Literary Paradox

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've read anything by this author, so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I'm pleasantly surprised at how good it was. There are definitely Shakespearean qualities, and an epic amount of blood and guts, hence the paradox I mentioned in my title. I've listened to Gregory's narration before, so I knew it would be a quality production. Plus, the price was right. Definitely recommend if you like your classic literature turned on its head!

WOOF!

Any additional comments?

Or should I say OINK?! This book is awesomely gruesome and if you like to see justice served violently, this book is for you. Flowers has a knack for writing about the taboo and disturbing - he does not disappoint in this tale. Dueling families, neither of which are filled with particularly "good" people, end up in competition over the famous Big Butts Bar-B-Que. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say, the road towards vengeance is littered with body parts and BBQ sauce in this gory tale. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys horror/murder-mystery/thrillers, etc. Scary and well done, 10/10!

The rape scene was one of the crudest I have seen

I have received a free copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

This is the tragic story affecting two families, due to some misunderstandings and somebody prone to breed quarrels. Titus owns a successful restaurant called Big Butts Bar-B-Que. Sadly he has just lost two of his sons, one in killed in war and the other committed suicide after harming and disfiguring Anna, his girlfriend. To make things right for Anna and her mother Tamora, Titus proposes to marry his transexual son Look – Lavinia to Anna. It does not matter what Anna thinks, or the fact that Lavinia disagrees, or that Anna’s brothers have a cunning hate for homosexuals. But this will only bring disgrace.

Knowing that this book is based in ‘Titus Andronicus’ by Shakespeare I was already expecting a gruesome tale, but I have to say that there was even more gore than I expected. The rape scene was one of the crudest I have seen in books, even though, some details were skipped.

The characters were really well portrayed, and their actions and dialogs felt natural. I found strange though, that Lavinia referred to him/herself as ‘him’, and everyone did the same. I would have expected him to address himself as ‘she’, since he changed his name from Look to Lavinia.

There are some plot differences between ‘Titus Andronicus’ and ‘Feast’ but on the whole it is a catchy story with very intense moments and some evil characters. It is difficult to justify Aaron or imagine why he acted like he did, but this part is common with the classic tragedy, and it is key to the whole story.

I really enjoyed Rick Gregory’s narration of this book, impersonating each one of the characters making the story easy to follow. He also captured and transmitted all the emotions from the characters, which made from this a very good experience.

I have a little complaint, though, but I am not partial here. There is a sentence in Spanish in the book, and although it is grammatically correct, nobody would say it like it appears in the book. It is also not read correctly. I am sure this will not be perceived by 95% of listeners but it always bothers me when writers or narrators do not double check this kind of things, especially being so easy nowadays.

All in all it was a very entertaining listen, but stay away from it if you are too impressionable.

Gruesome Revenge

This story was based from one of Shakespeare’s dark tales but so much better. It contains gore, brutal rape and a nauseating meal. The story is about 2 families’ revenge on each other; my favorite character was Lavina who did not deserve what happened. Do not eat or snack while listening. Recommend to anyone who enjoys gross horror. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU !

Gruesome Revenge Story

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, I picked this one up because I was intrigued by the Shakespearean influence. This was definitely a gruesome revenge story full of gore and there was an especially brutal rape scene. The narrator did a great job on the voices, but, if you can't handle something this brutal and gruesome, be forewarned. All that being said, it really was well written and a good story.

Revenge is a dish best served with BBQ!

Great horror story! Two families are dealing with tragedy. Both want revenge on the other. In the end, revenge is best served with BBQ! This book gets pretty gory and has some very erotic scenes, so unless you're alone or using headphones, be aware of your surroundings! I'm not sure if this is considered extreme horror or not, but it was pretty extreme! Great narration by Rick Gregory!

Feast

I don't think I'll ever eat BBQ again. if you like a book that will have you gasping for breath because you forget to breathe, this is the book for you.

The narrator is excellent narrating this audible.

I received this audible free and am thrilled to give my honest unbiased opinion.

Bloody, Gory fun

This story was amazing. I was highly impressed. A family that runs a BBQ chain is done wrong and takes the tastiest of revenge out on those that were willing wrong doers. When I was done, I was craving that sweet and tangy taste of BBQ, although I wanted to know where my meat was sourced from first!
