An interesting topic. Domestic violence never easy to discuss let alone PTSD of a survivor of that experience. I thought it covered the subject matter well. I enjoyed the softness and patience of the pursuer of the relationship and how it eventually paid off and a wonderful ending.

Such a story

Laura moved to Texas to help her aunt who had moved into a nursing home. Traumatized by the death of her wife she hopes to hide from the world and recover. Tess literally bumps into her at the grocery during her first week. Can Tess help her heal and welcome love and healing. Recommend. Great performance and story.

A Small Town Texas Romance

Some really good research or firsthand knowledge went into writing this book. Several hard topics are handled with care and realism. I related to a lot of the internalized thoughts and feelings.

There were a few odd language things scattered throughout. Artifacts of a non-native English speaker… an odd word choice here or there, and other times when phrasing is too formal or proper. A person actually from the places these characters are from would not speak that way. None of it is enough to really detract from the story, though.

Narration was okay, not great. She did a good southern accent, better than most I’ve heard, but it wasn’t quite the east Texas it was supposed to be.

I didn’t know what I was getting into with this one, but I knew Harper Bliss was a good writer. This is a slow burn. A damaged character needing to heal. Enough supporting characters to anchor the story in the world. Hard topics are dealt with without the book feeling to heavy. Sexy times, when they finally arrive, are hot.

It’s not my favorite Harper Bliss book, but I’m glad I listened

Good writing

This story is beautifully exceptional. I hesitated on listening to this book and after I listened to it have no idea why. The Narrator did a wonderful job!

This is a very funny sweet story and an easy delightful listen. Theme- Starting over and healing from trauma and forging a new path that leads to a new chance for intimacy and love. Great supporting characters and exploration of family dynamics. Yes, darlings, you wait for the spicy in this one, but the story is worth it. Great narration and a very fulfilling HEA!

Laura is abused by her wife. Then the accident while defending herself happens. She has a lot of healing to do. Tess is attracted to Laura who is unattainable. Since Tess is an extrovert and one that doesn't give up easily, she works in a friendship with Laura. Tess does become the light to Laura's darkness.

This story was such a breath of fresh air! I loved how real the storyline was and so very honest and how much I wanted to know and listen to each moment.

Loved it!

Perhaps because of the topics covered, this book didn’t grab my attention the way her books normally do.
I can’t say there was anything in particular wrong with it, as it was a beautiful story, but just not my cup of tea.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the narration either, which may be what put me off from the story.

A bit different from Bliss’s usual stuff

I found this different and maybe a little unexpected for Harper Bliss. The story was unique. I’m not sure if the narration put me off a little or what...can’t put my finger on what I didn’t like. Over all good, though.

The trauma mentioned was unexpected . I wondered how it would be dealt with to be able to move on and be open to love. It was well done , very moving and heartfelt how it all came together as the story unfolded. renews your faith in finding that person that’s meant for you in so many ways. Narrator was perfect!

Great book!
