A fantastic collection of fantasy tales
Wow, I ahve to say that I honestly was not expecting the quality that I got from this book. There are some amazing tales contained herein, all of which are 4 star or better in quality. I had several faves, but I'll get to that in a minute.
I want to focus on Fiona Thraille for a moment because she reads all the short stories in this tome, and she is really great. I was impressed with her sound quality, the pleasantness of her voice as she read, and her ability to play members of either sex without hesitation. He capacity to fill the story with raw emotion was imprssive, and her pacing was impeccable. She knows how to play a dramatic scene, an emotional scene, and an action scene.
Ok, now I'm going to talk about the cover. This is the only bad thing about the book. I don't take stars off for bad covers, but this is really rough. I am not a fan. I mean no disrespect to the artist, but this is really something a kid in middle school would draw. It does not make you want to read the book, and I literally passed over it numerous times just because of the appearance. What drew me in was Ron Fortier's name.
The writing in this book is outstanding. All of them hold your interest and take you to a different fantay setting, a few are a hour or longer, and one is 10 minutes in length but no matter how much time that they take up they are all fun and worthwhile. I liked the first story, the murder mystery, and Fortier's story about the demonic bear. Without a doubt they were my favorite tales, but all the stories are good. That is a rare thing for a collection, usually you have one or two clinkers but even the one with the young boy talking to his dad about dragons was both heart touching and captivating to listen to.
Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.
If you are any kind ofa fan of fantasy please overlook the cover and get this book. It will fill your hours with great stories, magic, danger, bravery, and adventure. You do not want to miss out on this. Trust me!
