About this listen

Many people have opinions on the subject of romantic relationships - why they're so hard to find and so difficult to maintain - but the real source of trouble isn't too complicated: it's that we are choosing our partners based on love, excitement, lust, attraction, neediness...on feelings. Instead of helping listeners find true love, Dr. Michael Bennett and his comedy-writing daughter Sarah reveal the practical, commonsense criteria for good partnerships that will allow real love to develop. Finding a good partner involves losing preconceived notions about who your dream date might be, so the Bennetts helpfully appraise the pros and cons of eight traits people most commonly seek: charisma, beauty, chemistry, communication, sense of humor, family stability, intelligence, and wealth. They suggest you'll have better luck finding a partner in a bar or online if you focus on ideas like mutual attraction and respect and common interests and common goals. With helpful quizzes and case studies inspired by Dr. Bennett's practice, F--k Love is packed with enough advice and wisdom to help you avoid the relationship nightmares that led you to this book in the first place. Contains mature themes.

Felt GOOD Laughing Out Loud after so long!!

I found a little pleasure in a time of much pain, a reason to laugh through all my tears, ability to forgive my past, and a roadmap to a happier future!! 😄 (and many ideas on how to keep people VERY much at distance if I choose so.)
Just couldn't stop listening & will Again & Again and then Pay It Forward.... 😊😊

Pretty informative

I'm a 25 year old guy and I found most of the informative relatively familiar, although not always experienced (Thank god). I'm not sure how others would relate, but I found this book to be a solid ground for recollection on past mistakes that I, or the person I dated, may have made. The advice I have heard will give me a great hand as I search for a better partnership in life. It's also pretty funny, especially when you can relate to the character stories. It was a book I'm glad I invested in.

Fun, but basic and lacking in research.

Fun book. Good little tips. But a lot of one-size-fits-all prescriptions and more “don’t’s” than “do’s.” Also would have been nice to throw in some solid research and stats on relationships and romance instead of just opinions and hypotheticals. Not a bad book. Some good stuff, but needs more research, real-life stories, and examples.

Really straight forward

This book showed me the many mistakes we can make when looking for a partner and where to cut it off. It was raw, uncut, and unapologetic. I would read again!!

Really thoughtful but a bit black and white

I really enjoyed this book and it certainly gave me a lot to think about. It's filled with good advice and relatable situations. Having said that, It was very much geared towards a middle class, American audience. Also occasionally the book reinforced negative stereotypes about people in non-traditional careers or those with troubled backgrounds (a lot of prison jokes). However, I think the volume of information required some generalization. Overall the book was very helpful- if taken with a grain of salt.

love and relationship reality check

I really enjoyed the author's emphasis on the characteristics that can be distracting when dating and looking for a lasting relationship. By bringing these characteristics down-to-earth, the advice comes off as reasonable and encouraging.
My only complaint is that I could have done without the multiple choice questions, and some of the asides were a bit harsh and judgemental at times. i.e. the segment on what's person's name says about them.
All in all a good book for those getting burned-out on the whole dating scene and need something to encourage them to keep going with renewed confidence and knowledge about what's really important.

it was hard to finish the book. Makes you doubt everything in a relationship that you have.
