About this listen

Ken Olson's world is shattered by a corporate crime that his company must cover up at any cost. Stripped of everything but his passion for justice, Olson discovers the dark and dangerous world behind the corporate jets, the hired killers who secretly do the corporation's dirtiest work, the clandestine offshore bank accounts, and the greedy machinations of the lucky few at the top.

Olson's struggle pits him against a host of deadly rivals: a psychopathic CEO who has hijacked the corner office, a brutal killer from the private military underworld, a network anchorwoman without a hint of conscience, an aristocrat who pulls the strings of power, and a hot young actress who makes sex a tool of deception.

Critic reviews

"Kaplan takes kill-or-be-killed business ideologies to psychopathic new levels in this deftly plotted corporate thriller....It's Donald Trump meets Hannibal Lecter, with highly engaging results." ( Publishers Weekly)

Not Very Good

If you like James Patterson you will probably enjoy this book. He provided a blurb and was an obvious influence. I thought the plot was unrealistic and the dialogue was atrocious. There were so many times that I though you have to be kidding, but the writer was not. There was still something there to keep me hanging on to find out what happens. I actually thought the writer did a very good job of reading his own work.

3 stars is generous

I agree with most of the other so-so reviews. Pretty cheesy dialoge, over the top scenarios, unbelievable corporate characters, unnecessary sex scenes, etc. Still, I manged to make it through the whole book and I think it had its moments. I thought the narration (read by the author) was fine.

He isn't Joseph Finder

But it was a decent listen. Scott Brick as a narrator would have given this book another star. The author needs to stick to writing and let a professional narrator - narrate.

The plot was decent but if you are a fan of Joseph Finder, this is not going to fully satisfy your corporate mystery craving.

I will definitely give this author another listen if he tries another corporate mystery - as long as he lets Scott Brick read it!

Fire the Reader

Although I would have enjoyed this book had I read it on paper, it was spoiled for me by the style of the reader/author, who apparently thought he was reading this to kindergarten students. He should stick to writing and not reading! I would probably read something by this author in the future, but only if he is not the reader!

Brutal, actually

I could not give this title more than two stars. Perhaps it was the reader who sounded like the comedian/actor Dan Aykroyd, but I couldn't take the book seriously!

Or perhaps it was the corny dialogue and the one-dimensional wooden characters. Or the predictable and over-the-top plot; kind of like a Harlequin Romance combined with Business Mystery.

If you think I am being overly harsh listen to "Paranoia", "Company Man" or "Killer Instinct" written by Joseph Finder and read by Scott Brick. Or "Blackbird" and "Mr Paradise" by Elmore Leonard, a true master of credible dialogue and character development.

There are much better books in this genre.

Good

I enjoyed this book. Yes, the dialog was a little wooden sometimes but the plot was great and it kept my interest. I didn't think the reader was as good as some I have heard; but he also wasn't bad by a long shot.

So bad I laughed the whole time

So bad, words can hardly do it justice. Stilted, unbelievably awful dialogue. Bland, boring, insipid prose. The kind you roll your eyes at. As a matter of fact, I think I might have sprained mine. Asinine characters that are completely devoid of any reality. Cliche piled upon cliche. Improper word useage. Mind-numbingly idiotic action scenes. Icky sex scenes that made me want to shower (I skipped them, actually, they were that bad). Impossible things (like the protagonist knowing what the enemy sounded like hitting the ground from some 30 floors above where he hit). The narration didn't help any, but added a healthy dose of cheese to the proceedings. I don't know which was worse, his writing or his narration. I really can't say enough bad things about this novel. You have been warned.

If you're looking for GOOD corporate thrillers, stick to Joseph Finder.

Should be 10 Stars !

Great plot. Fast, nonstop pace, great character development. Very unusual for an author to successfully "read" his own book but Glenn Kaplan does a stellar job. I looked to see if Audible had other books written / read by this author but this seems to be the only one. I hope he writes another as I will buy it immediately. You definitely won't be disappointed. This is a must, must "read." To bad the rating system stops at 5 stars. This one rates a 10.

I have never written a review before.

WOW! Where to begin with this one. I have never written a review before, but I felt this one needed to be written. The characters in this book were so cardboard as to be laughable. The book seemed to be written like a bad screenplay with one poor set of dialogue after another. The most often used dialogue seemed to be "Well did you? Huh?" Similar to how someone might imagine the dialogue of a 14 year old, but these characters were supposed to be the best in their respective fields. I could go on and on, but please, just don't waste your time on this one.
