About this listen

The story begins in a dusty village lost in the Argentine pampas, where a girl, born out of wedlock, scrambles her way to the capital city by the time she is 15. It ends with the embalmed corpse of Eva Perõn being hidden away by nervous politicians for fear that if the working people of Argentina knew where it was buried, it would inspire them to revolution.

In between, she became first the actress Eva Duarte, then the mistress of colonel Perõn, then, in October 1945, after the "shirtless ones" had swept Perõn into office, the president's wife. In the colorful, tumultuous setting of postwar Argentina, she wielded a power, spiritual and practical, that has few parallels outside of hereditary monarchy. She was literally idolized by millions but was hated and feared by many as well. She became Evita the legend.

Very informative!

Although this biography reads like a college textbook, it is filled with so much information about Eva Peron. From her humble beginnings to her rise as an actress to her eventual peak as the First Lady of Argentina...this book covers it all. Some parts of the listen were slow but I enjoyed listening to her story and her incredible ambition.

Good book made better by the narrator

I learn a lot from this book. It helped my mother and I have a long talk about her real life compared to the play, but I still had” don’t Cry for Me Argentina “ stuck in my head the whole time
I also LOVE this narrator!! I really enjoy her style and her reading voice. I have gotten books just because she read them.

Great first look at Evita and this period of Argentine history.

I haven’t read a lot about the history of Argentina, but with a son living there I wanted to learn more. This was a fascinating read about Evita focused primarily on her public career with Juan Peron. Definitely more to learn but a great first look.

Well written and researched, and very interesting.

This is a highly engaging and excellent book on a very important slice of Argentine history, and on Eva Peron, her life, her myth, her work, and her personality. Highly recommended. It is also well narrated.

Pronunciation

This was a very good book I have enjoyed it thoroughly. My only complaint would be that the reader was not able to pronounce many Spanish words properly. This unfortunately was a bit distracting while listening to the book. However, she did a fantastic job otherwise and I am grateful that there are people like her or willing to read books so that I can listen to them when I drive.
