About this listen
The New York Times bestselling Traveling Matchmaker series begins with a Regency tale of seductive subterfuge—from the author of the Agatha Raisin novels
A dead employer’s legacy of five thousand pounds allows spinster Hannah Pym to resign from housekeeping and find adventure traveling the English countryside by coach. But the adventure soon finds Miss Pym traveling with Miss Emily Freemantle, a spoiled, violet-eyed beauty fleeing an arranged marriage to a rake she has never met. When Emily’s darkly handsome betrothed boards their stage, Miss Pym is certain the girl was rash to bolt from this aristocratic catch! So, as soon as the travelers repair to an inn, Miss Pym begins her matchmaking. Although Lord Ranger Harley complains he’ll not marry an ungrateful minx, Miss Pym suspects once she’s marshaled the couple into sharing intimate household chores, all romantic knots will be untangled.

On her way, she rescues Evelyn Barton-Forbes, who has been "ruined" and abandoned on the streets of Rome by her lover. With a typical disregard for convention, Amelia promptly hires her fellow countrywoman as a companion and takes her to Cairo, where strange visitations and a botched kidnapping convince Amelia that there is a plot afoot to harm Evelyn.

Wealthy and arrogant, Gabriel Penhallow knows it's time to fulfill his dynastic duty. All he must do is follow "The Penhallow way" - find a biddable bride, produce an heir and a spare, and then live separate lives. It's worked so well for generations, certainly one kiss with the delectable Livia Stuart isn't going to change things. Society dictates he marry her, and one chit is as good as another as long as she's from a decent family.

Entertaining!
This was my first book by M.C. Beaton and although it was different than I expected, I thoroughly enjoyed it...and Helen Lisanti gave a wonderful performance.
In "Emily Goes to Exeter" we are introduced to Miss Hannah Pym, a former housekeeper who has come into a small inheritance when her employer dies. Miss Pym decides to use her money on her life-long ambition. All her life she has watched the "Flying Machine" (stagecoach) pass by her window, and finally she has the chance for her own adventure!
Miss Pym's first ride on a "Flying Machine" is indeed an adventure: Highway Men, Blizzard, Mystery and Match Making!
This is a "clean romance" - fun and funny, drama and hilarious escapades. Worth listening to at any age.

Fun!
I really enjoyed this one. Unlike many Regency novels, this has an actual plot. Plucky heroine, likeable characters, danger, intrigue, unknown villain, and the promise of more adventures to come.

Good Traditional Regency
The first in a series, sets up the series and Miss Pym. I enjoyed the book and liked the characters. Typical Regency, but a good storyline with good characters. I liked the narrator.

Absolutely LOVED this story.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Sweet, and true to the period, with loads of romance and a mystery thrown in!! I am going to buy another Traveling Match Maker book NOW :)

Delightful
I laughed out loud when the lady had to be pulled out of the bathtub! Sometimes the story dragged just a bit but it was always leading to another morsel of merriment.

Marion Chesney a favorite
She is one of my favorite regency authors. The only stories I didn’t like of hers was the daughters of mannerly series. This series is by far my favorite. My second favorite is the poor relatives series. It’s a shame people think these are boring. I like them because they’re clean romances rather than containing sex.

Love it
As usual, Beaton writes with great humor in describing the times in England.
The story involves many people, all fully described, making it easy to follow the adventures and misadventures of this novel.
I loved it!

Sweet book and fun story with a little mystery
I really enjoyed this sweet, clean story. The narrator voiced the characters very differently. What a great book! Excited for the next one.

Travel with Miss Pym
I enjoyed the story and the narrator. A housekeeper inherits money from her employer and decides to travel. Follow the adventures of Miss Pym on her first stagecoach ride. The stories by M C Beat on are always a delightful experience.
