Después de varios años de encierro y de padecimientos de todas clases, Edmundo conoce a otro preso, el abate Faria con el que entabla una gran amistad. Faria se convierte en su tutor, y cuando es esta punto de morir, da razón a Edmundo de un increíble tesoro escondido en la isla de Montecristo.Una vez que éste consigue escapar, del castillo de If, se jura asimismo que se vengará de todos aquellos que le han hecho perder la tercera parte de su vida en prisión.
Esta, es la versión original de la obra, con un total de 46 horas de grabación, que se hacen extremadamente agradables de escuchar gracias al buen hacer del narrador de la misma y a la música y efectos introducidos en posproducción.
